JUNE 14, 2007
Chairperson Schumann called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m.
PRESENT: Brunotte, Schumann
ABSENT: Puleo
ALSO PRESENT: Bryan Bear, Community Development Director (CDD)

Minutes of May 24, 2007
Brunotte made motion, Schumann seconded, to recommend approval of the minutes of May 24,
2007 as submitted.
All Ayes. Motion carried.
Marko Variance for Setback for Deck Stairs
The Board considered the request of Julie and Joe Marko, 13500 Fiona Avenue North, for a
variance from the front yard setback to permit stairs to be constructed onto the existing deck on
the property.
The Associate Planner explained the property was on a corner lot resulting in two front and two
side yards. The deck was currently 26 feet away from the front property line. The stairs are
proposed to be constructed to the deck on the north side of the property, which is considered a
front yard, and will be 22 feet from the property line where 30 feet is required by ordinance. The
home was constructed in the front yard setback of 30 feet and would not allow anything to be
constructed on that side of the home. There is a slope to the land on the property of about 2 feet
going down from the north side to the south side.
Schumann opened the public hearing.
Brunotte asked staff if neighbors had been notified.
The Associate Planner said they had and staff had received no comments.
The applicant was present and said it was not meant to be a cost saving plan. If the stairs were to
be located on the other side of the deck, they would be below his son's window, within arms
reach, and the stairs would be too steep.
