Wilson Tool Variances for Monument Sign
The Board considered the application from Wilson Tool, 12912 Farnham Avenue North, for
variances to allow construction of a 32 square foot monument sign.
The Associate Planner explained Wilson Tool had recently received administrative approval of
an addition to the main entrance of the building totaling approximately 520 square feet located
off Farnham Avenue. The applicant wanted to locate a monument sign near that entrance. A
variance was necessary to allow the sign to be located 15 feet — 3 inches from the front property
line where a 30 foot setback was required by ordinance. The building is located on a corner lot
which results in the property having two front yards. The second variance request was to allow
two monument signs on the property. The applicant currently has a monument sign located on
130th Street. The sign ordinance states that a property is only allowed to have one monument
sign.
Duane Berg was at the meeting representing Wilson Tool. Berg explained customers were
having difficulty finding the entrance to the building and they wanted to construct a monument
sign to make the entrance more visible.
Schumann questioned whether there would be a sight issue for traffic. The Associate Planner
explained that in staff's opinion it would not.
Petryk commented that is was a very attractive sign and had no problem with approving the
