CITY OF LAKE ELMO <br />WASHINGTON COUNTY, MINNESOTA <br />RESOLUTION 2000 -07 <br />A RESOLUTION ADOPTING RESOLUTION NO. 11- 18 -99 -01 ADOPTED BY THE <br />RAMSEY/WASHINGTON SUBURBAN CABLE COMMISSION ON DECEMBER 13, 1999 <br />IN OPPOSITION TO SENATE FILE 2133 AND HOUSE FI_LE 2137 <br />WHEREAS, the City of Lake Elmo is a joint member of the Ramsey /Washington <br />Suburban Cable Commission, and <br />WHEREAS, the City of Lake Elmo through this joint agreement has authorized the <br />Ramsey /Washington Suburban Cable Commission to act on its behalf to regulate its participation. <br />in the cable television franchise; and <br />WHEREAS, the purpose of this joint agreement is to ensure that the cable company <br />meets the identified needs of the City of Lake Elmo, and other participating communities, such as <br />community television and institutional networks and serving as a local resource to resolving <br />customer service issues; and <br />WHEREAS, proposed State legislation, Senate File 21133, and. I -louse File 2137, would <br />abolish Chapters 237 and 238 of Minnesota Statutes and regulate cable systems and common <br />carriers the same. The proposed legislation will revoke the Commission's authority to award <br />cable television franchises, eliminate the Commission as a local resource to its citizens, and <br />remove the Commission's ability to receive direct support for community television and other <br />provisions that meet community needs. <br />NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Lake EImo adopts by <br />reference Resolution No. 11- 18 -99 -01 adopted by the Ramsey/Washington Cable Commission on <br />December 13, 1999. <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be made available <br />to all Senate and House Representatives. <br />Adopted by the Lake Elmo City Council. this I" day of February 2000. <br />Lee Hunt, Mayor" <br />Attest: <br />Mary Kueffner, Administrator <br />
