RESOLUTION 2008-19 <br />CITY OF LAKE ELMO <br />WASHINGTON !, <br />A RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF HF 3997 AND SF 3703 CONCERNING SOLID WASTE <br />LANDFILL BEING SITED IN HIGH RISK AREAS <br />WHEREAS, the City of Lake Elmo that is charged with protecting the public health and safety of <br />its citizens; and <br />WHEREAS, the City of Lake Elmo is required to protect the quality of the groundwater for <br />drinking and other purposes; and <br />WHEREAS, the City of Lake Elmo has concerns about the threat to public health and safety <br />from siting landfills in areas that are high risk to groundwater contamination; and <br />WHEREAS, the City of Lake Elmo has concerns regarding the proposed landfill that has been <br />proposed in West Lakeland Township of Washington County; and <br />WHEREAS, Representative Bunn has authored a bill in the House (HF 3997) and Senator <br />Saltzman has authored a bill in the senate (SF 3703) that would prevent future <br />solid waste landfills from being sited where geologic conditions are such that <br />there is a high risk of ground water contamination; and <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Lake Elmo, <br />expresses its support for the proposed legislation HF 3997 and SF 3707. <br />ADOPTED, by the Lake Elmo City Council on the First day of April, 2008. <br />Dean Johnston <br />Mayor <br />ATTEST: <br />Susan Hoyt, City Administrator <br />Ayes Nays <br />Mayor Johnston X <br />Council Members: <br />DeLapp X <br />Johnson X <br />Park X <br />Smith X <br />
