MINUTES OF THE WORKSHOP MEETING <br />PLANNING COMMISSION <br />LITTLE CANADA, MINNESOTA <br />MAY 11, 2017 <br />Pursuant to due call and notice thereof a workshop meeting of the Planning <br />Commission of Little Canada, Minnesota was held on the 1 Ith day of <br />May, 2017 in the Council Chambers of the City Center located at 515 Little <br />Canada Road in said City. <br />Chair Bill Buesing called the meeting to order at 7:54 p.m. and the <br />following members of the Planning Commission were present at roll call: <br />PLANNING COMMISSION: Mr. Bill Buesing <br />Mr. Al Davison <br />Mr. Chris Kwapick <br />Ms. Catherine Beltmann <br />Mr. Nick Sandell <br />ABSENT: Mr. Nick Schwalbach <br />Ms. Jennifer Schletty-Flores <br />ALSO PRESENT: Mr. Steve Grittman, City Planner <br />Ms. Jessica Jagoe, Associate Planner <br />Ms. Heidi Heller, City Clerk <br />COMPREHENSIVE The City Planner explained that every 10 years, the Metropolitan Council <br />PLAN UPDATE requires that all cities and counties in the 7 -County metropolitan area <br />DISCUSSION update their Comprehensive Plans. The Met Council has specific <br />requirements and topics that each plan must address; land use, housing, <br />transportation, water resources, parks and open spaces. He stated that one <br />of the primary ideas of the Comprehensive Plan is to think about where the <br />City wants to go over the next 10 years and what they want to be. He noted <br />that many cities want to be exactly what they are, and some have different <br />visions for what they could be. <br />The City Planner reported that one of the topics from the 2017 goal setting <br />session is the zoning designations of the three mobile home parks, since <br />they are all zoned something other than residential. He explained that the <br />two on Rice Street are zoned commercial, and North Star Estates on <br />Country Drive is zoned industrial. He stated that when zoning was put in <br />place, the idea was that the mobile home parks would not remain, and when <br />they changed, the future land uses were guided by the zoning. He noted <br />that these parks are now an important piece of the City's affordable <br />housing options. <br />
