9/5/2013 EDAC DRAFT MINUTES 1 <br />CITY OF LINO LAKES <br />ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT <br />ADVISORY COMMITTEE <br />MINUTES <br /> <br />DATE: September 5, 2013 <br /> <br />MEMBERS <br />PRESENT: Joe Stranik, Tom Colgan, Lou Masonick, Chad Wagner, Lane Thor, Matt <br />Kassner, <br />MEMBERS <br />ABSENT: Julie Schwartz, Bill Combs, Don Johnson <br /> <br />OTHERS PRESENT: Michael Grochala, Kirsten Barsness <br /> <br />APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br />It was moved by J. Stanik to approve the minutes of June 6, 2013. The motion was seconded by <br />L. Masonik and passed unanimously. <br /> <br />5 YEAR STRATEGIC PLAN DISCUSSION <br /> <br />Mr. Grochala introduced Ms. Barsness to the board and explained that she would be assisting the <br />group with the update of the 5 year strategic plan. Ms. Barsness gave a brief overview of her <br />professional background. She stated that project goal would be to not only prepare a plan but <br />also to define how that plan is put into action. <br /> <br />Ms. Barsness noted that Lino has a huge inventory of land close to the inner ring, lenders are <br />loosening their financial strings and people are starting to make investment decisions. She <br />pointed out that people are going to do their research to make a good locational choice for <br />development and the group wants that choice to be Lino Lakes. <br /> <br />The committee continued with a general discussion regarding development opportunities within <br />Lino Lakes, possible funding sources for assistance, and the possibility of starting a seed fund for <br />economic development activities. Ms. Barsness reiterated that the planning process will define <br />what areas do we want to focus on, and where do we want to prioritize are available resources. <br />Then we can build our plan from there and move into the action/implementation component from <br />there. <br /> <br />Mr. Stanik asked what the next steps would be. Mr. Grochala stated he would be working out a <br />project scope with Ms. Barsness and we would likely kick off the project in the next month or <br />two. <br /> <br />UPDATES <br /> <br />Mr. Grochala provided an update on various projects throughout the city. <br /> <br />The meeting was adjourned at 9:00. <br />
