Park Board Meeting
May 6, 1991
Recreation Agreement - Mr. Asleson explained that the Agreement
between Lino Lakes and Centennial School District has been reviewed
by the City Attorney and is ready to go to the Council for
approval. He asked if the Park Board had any comments on the
agreement. Ray Johnson thinks the agreement looks good. Ken Johnson
questioned whether the Recreation Director would be permanently
housed at the School District offices. Marty Asleson explained that
it may be best in the beginning for two reasons, #1 the City has no
additional room at this time, and 12 if we're programming indoor
activities, it would be a good idea to have people in house to
maintain communications. Marty also noted that the North Metro
Recreation (Centerville, Circle Pines, Lexington) agreement with
the School District will be almost the same as ours. North Metro
Recreation Department won't be active until 1992, but will start
some part time programs this Fall. Mr. Asleson says the School
District feels that all recreation departments should have the same
benefits.
Land Use Agreement - Marty explained that there are not many land
use agreements around such as this one where a City and a School
District agree to certain uses and terms. Usually agreements such
as this are done verbally with a hand shake. Staff at Birch School
have seen the agreement and seem comfortable with it. It will move
on to our City Council and then to the School Board.
Forest Lake School District - Marty reported that he and Don Volk
met with Dan Poeppard, Director of Community Services in Forest
Lake School District. He commented that all school districts differ
in how they run their recreation programs. Marty feels that Forest
Lake has a good program. Marty explained that the possibility of an
agreement with Forest Lake was discussed. He felt that this was a
positive meeting.
John Baumann asked if Marty intended to meet with the White Bear
Lake School District to discuss the same issues. Marty noted that
Lino Lakes doesn't have a park facility in the White Bear School
District. ^MOB
d.
