He also stated that ~ <br />the North Suburban Cable TV Commission has nearly completed the "Request, <br />for Proposal for Franchise". <br />Councilmember Eggert, Council Liaison to the Human Rights Commission, <br />informed that the Commission had met with David Olson, newly appointed <br />Director of the Job Corps Center. Mr. Olson, who has spent the past 14 <br />years organizing Job Corps Centers, has been hired by Talley Industries <br />to organize the Center. At that meeting Mr. Olson informed the .Committee <br />that he felt the community groups (Como-Falcon Heights Coalition and the <br />Ad Hoc Committee) plus strong citizen concern has had a positive effect <br />in making favorable arrangements with the Department of Labor. <br />Councilmember Eggert stated he had contacted Representative Vento's <br />Office and the he had been assured that the new law prohibiting housing <br />assistance to non-resident alien students is in effect. Council dir- <br />ected the Clerk Administrator to draft a letter to Vice President Bush <br />requesting information as to why the law has not been implemented. <br />Further discussion was deferred until the April 8, 1981 meeting in <br />order that Attorney Allen could be in attendance for input. <br />Mayor Warkentien informed Council that he had met with Clint Hewitt, <br />University of Minnesota, regarding the possibility of purchasing <br />University property on which to construct a new City Hall. Mr. Hewitt <br />agreed to check into the matter and relay any information to the City. <br />Councilmember Larson reported that she had done some research into the <br />possibility of updating the present City Hall building and was of the <br />opinion that it would be very costly. <br />JOB CORPS <br />UPDATE <br />(HUMAN RIGHTS <br />MEETING AT <br />CENTER) <br />SECTION 8 <br />HOUSING <br />PROPOSED CITY <br />HALL UPDATE <br />Councilmember Steele expressed concern that within 3 to 5 years, the LIQUOR STORE <br />Municipal Liquor Store would be in financial trouble due to the impact <br />made by the new MGM Liquor Store and suggested that the City Store <br />be monitored carefully in order that the City is not caught with a <br />failing business. It was also suggested that, perhaps, the City should <br />attempt to be more competitive in pricing. <br />Engineer Lemberg informed Council that the Metro Waste Control Commission <br />has requested the City resubmit the modified sewer element of the Compre- <br />hensive Plan to the Commission for review. In order to comply with the <br />Commission's requirements Engineer Lemberg suggested that the existing <br />map be updated to show all sanitary sewer systems that might be con- <br />templated for the future. Mayor Warkentien moved, seconded by Council- <br />member Eggert that Engineer Lemberg be authorized to update the map to <br />show the necessary sanitary sewer lines in undeveloped portions of the <br />City.
