Councilmember Eggert <br />was of the opinion that this would not be appropriate action as so few <br />from our community are involved and he felt a local city government should <br />not be involved in something that is happening in another country. He <br />also expressed concern about quality of the information on the problem in <br />Iran. Councilmember seconded the motion and upon a vote being taken, <br />the following voted in favor thereof : Mayor Tn'arkentien, Couneilmembers <br />Larson and Ciernia, and the following voted against the same: Council- <br />member Eggert. Councilmember Chestovich abstained. Motion carried. <br />RESOLUTION 83-32~ <br />A RESOLUTION URGING THE ISLAMIC REPUBLIC OF IRAN <br />TO RECOGNIZE AND GUARANTEE THE BASIC HUMAN RIGHTS <br />OF ALL PEOPLE IT GOVERNS <br />Mayor Warkentien moved, seconded by Councilmember Larson, that partial <br />payment in the amount of $113,232.I~0 be made to Austin P. Keller <br />Construction Co. Motion carried unanimously. <br />Council discussed at length whether or not the City should levy all <br />the City is legally allowed to levy after which Council agreed not <br />to levy to the limit, but an amount that would provide for $100,000 <br />in the Contingency Fund. Councilmember Larson felt that since th e <br />present levy limit system encourages spending, perhaps, the City <br />should lobby to change to "spend it or lose it attitude". <br />Councilmember Ciernia moved, seconded <br />the meeting be adjourned at 10:115 P.M. <br />by Councilmember Larson, that <br />Motion carried unanimously. <br />/~ / 9 <br />f ~• <br />Willis C.
