1
4
MINUTES
REGULAR CITY COUNCIL MEETING
FEBRUARY 8, 1978
Page 6
RESOLUTION 78-7
A RESOLUTION ESTABLISHING MUNICIPAL STATE
AID HIGHWAYS ROSELAWN AVENUE-SNELLING TO
CLEVELAND
Councilman Steele moved adoption of Resolution 78-7,
seconded by Councilman McGough. Upon a vote being taken
the following voted "aye": Acting Mayor Black, Council-
members McGough, Steele and Brown the following voted
"nay": None. Motion carried. Mayor Warkentien absent.
Engineer Brad Lemberg will have pictures taken of various
other sidewalk/bike path projects and will present them
at the February 22, 1978 meeting.
Councilman McGough moved, seconded by Councilman Steele
to authorize Clerk Administrator Barnes and Engineer
Brad Lemberg to negotiate with the U of M regarding the
right-of-way needed for the upgrading and construction
of Roselawn Avenue. Upon a vote being taken the following
voted "aye": Acting Mayor Black, Councilmembers McGough,
Steele and Brown the following voted "nay": None. Motion
carried. Mayor Warkentien absent.
i~
ROSELAWN
(CONY)
NEGOTIATION
WITH U of M
RIGHT OF WAY
Fire Chief Jerry Renchin explained the application pro- AMBULANCE
ceedure for acquiring an ambulance through State-Federal FIRE CHIEF
funding. They will provide 500 of the funds, the balance JERRY RENCHIN
would be acquired through private donations from various
clubs and businesses. On a survey conducted at this point,
the Knights of Columbus are very receptive to contributing.
The .funding would include the radio equipment to be installed
on a 50/50 basis also. The benefits to the City would be
that we are in complete control of the unit. The sheriff
vehicle provided now is in need of replacement as it is
no longer reliable for transport due to breakdowns on prior
calls. The vehicle under consideration is a van type, with
room inside to administer aid during transport which can not
be done now as the sheriff's vehicle does not have the space
required. The rescue squad would also have control over the
driving which they do not have at the present time. The cost
involved is around $18,000 to $20,000 for the vehicle and
$1,800 for the communication installation. The life of the
vehicle is projected to be about 10 to 15 years. Councilman
McGough questioned that if we made application, were we obligated
to follow through? Fire Chief Renchin explained we were under
no obligation and can withdraw the application at anytime. It
is forseeable in the future of this program being discontinued
and no longer available to us.
Councilman McGough moved, seconded by Councilperson Brown to
authorize Fire Chief Renchin to make application for State and
Federal funding along with private donations for the entire cost
of the ambulance unit.
