.MINUTES
REGULAR CITY COUNCIL MEETING
MAY 24, 1978
Page 2
Councilmember Brown arrived at 8:07 p.m.
Councilmember Black referred to a memo he had written
to council regarding the Westlund property located
at 1781 Hamline Avenue. It states in part; Immediately
south of the Bruce Ahrens property is a vacant lot
owned by the Robert 0. Westlund Construction Co.
Immediately south of the vacant lot is the Robert 0.
Westlund residence, in which offices of the Construction
Co. are maintained. The vacant lot itself apparently
borders the Bruce Ahrens property at a distance of
five or six feet from the Ahrens house. Westlund
(father and two sons) have apparently used this vacant
lot for a number of years for a number of miscellaneous
purposes associated with the Construction Co. Allegedly
the lot was purchased in 1957 from Verna Swanson.
Westlund's ownership of the lot predates Falcon Heights
Ordinance #64 (zoning ord. ) ".
Mr. James Westlund acted as spokesman for the Westlund
Construction Co., regarding the complaints about their
storage lot adjacent to their home. He stated that in
past years he has been readily available to clean up
the storage area each spring. He also stated that he
is now in the process of cleaning up the area.
Attorney Kenefick stressed the points of Ord. 83, re-
garding blight.
Mayor Warkentien moved to authorize the City Attorney,
John Kenefick to meet with Mr. Westlund and his Attorney
to effect a commitment of withdrawl from the lot as
commercial use within the next twelve months and the
driveway be dustcoated by May 31, 1978, seconded by
Councilmember Brown.
