MINUTES ~ ~~ <br />REGULAR CITY COUNCIL MEETING <br />MAY 14, 1980 <br />PAGE 2 <br />Mayor Warkentien presented a variance request from Nick and Rice' VARIANCE FOR <br />Chestovich, 1407 W. California, to build a garage 2' from the lot line. GARAGE <br />Councilmember Brown moved, seconded by Councilmember Eggert to permit 1407 W. CALI <br />the variance as requested. Motion carried unanimously. CHESTOVICH <br />Also presented to Council was a variance request from Howard Smeby, VARIANCE FOR <br />1801 Asbury, to install a fence 36" in height from front property line 36" HIGH <br />back to the house on the south 36' of the lot. This variance was FENCE, 1801 <br />approved by the Planning Commission and that Commission recommended ASBURY, <br />that Council also give approval. Councilmember Larson moved, seconded HOWARD SMEBY <br />by Councilmember Brown that the variance be approved as recommended <br />by the Planning Commission. Motion carried unanimously. <br />Mayor Warkentien presented for Council's consideration a request from ADRIENNE BAN: <br />Adrienne B. Banks, 1573 Fulham, to close off Fulham Street between Hoyt 1573 FULHAM <br />and Folwell on Sunday May 18, 1980 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. for a block REQUEST TO <br />party. Councilmember Eggert moved, seconded by Councilmember Brown BLOCK STREET <br />that the request be granted as presented. Motion carried unanimously. FOR BLOCK <br />PARTY-GRANTE: <br />Councilmember Eggert recommended that Council request Ramsey County <br />to make the intersection of Hamline and Roselawn a 4 way stop or in <br />some other way control traffic at that busy intersection; He explained <br />that it is very difficult to cross Hamline during rush hours and that <br />his child had been hit by a car while walking his bike across the <br />intersection. Council concurred that it is a dangerous crossing and <br />after a short discussion Councilmember Eggert moved, seconded by Council- <br />member Larson that Resolution 80-11 be adopted requesting some form of <br />traffic control be placed at Hamline and Roselawn. Motion carried <br />unanimously. <br />RESOLUTION 80-11 RESOLUTION <br />80-11 <br />A RESOLUTION REQUESTING RAMSEY COUNTY TO CONDUCT <br />A SURVEY TO DETERMINE THE FEASIBILITY OF INSTALLING <br />A FOUR WAY STOP OR A REGULATOR SIGNAL AT ROSELAWN <br />AND HAMLINE <br />Engineer Lemberg reported on the bid opening for sealcoating the north- <br />west quadrant of the City. The following bids were received: Allied <br />Blacktop Co, $43,010, Blacktop Service $40,745 and Bituminous Roadways, <br />Inc. 39,331. Engineer Lemberg informed that the repair work on the <br />streets will be considerably less than anticipated so the cost can be <br />lowered to be within the 1980 Budget of $33,000. Councilmember Brown <br />moved, seconded by Councilmember Larson that Resolution 8-12 be adopted <br />awarding the 1980 sealcoating project to Bituminbns~Roadways, Inc., 2825 <br />Cedar Ave. S. Minneapolis, MN with the understanding that changes will be <br />made to stay within the budget of $33,000.
