MINUTES ~ ~~ REGULAR CITY COUNCIL MEETING MAY 14, 1980 PAGE 2 Mayor Warkentien presented a variance request from Nick and Rice' VARIANCE FOR Chestovich, 1407 W. California, to build a garage 2' from the lot line. GARAGE Councilmember Brown moved, seconded by Councilmember Eggert to permit 1407 W. CALI the variance as requested. Motion carried unanimously. CHESTOVICH Also presented to Council was a variance request from Howard Smeby, VARIANCE FOR 1801 Asbury, to install a fence 36" in height from front property line 36" HIGH back to the house on the south 36' of the lot. This variance was FENCE, 1801 approved by the Planning Commission and that Commission recommended ASBURY, that Council also give approval. Councilmember Larson moved, seconded HOWARD SMEBY by Councilmember Brown that the variance be approved as recommended by the Planning Commission. Motion carried unanimously. Mayor Warkentien presented for Council's consideration a request from ADRIENNE BAN: Adrienne B. Banks, 1573 Fulham, to close off Fulham Street between Hoyt 1573 FULHAM and Folwell on Sunday May 18, 1980 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. for a block REQUEST TO party. Councilmember Eggert moved, seconded by Councilmember Brown BLOCK STREET that the request be granted as presented. Motion carried unanimously. FOR BLOCK PARTY-GRANTE: Councilmember Eggert recommended that Council request Ramsey County to make the intersection of Hamline and Roselawn a 4 way stop or in some other way control traffic at that busy intersection; He explained that it is very difficult to cross Hamline during rush hours and that his child had been hit by a car while walking his bike across the intersection. Council concurred that it is a dangerous crossing and after a short discussion Councilmember Eggert moved, seconded by Council- member Larson that Resolution 80-11 be adopted requesting some form of traffic control be placed at Hamline and Roselawn. Motion carried unanimously. RESOLUTION 80-11 RESOLUTION 80-11 A RESOLUTION REQUESTING RAMSEY COUNTY TO CONDUCT A SURVEY TO DETERMINE THE FEASIBILITY OF INSTALLING A FOUR WAY STOP OR A REGULATOR SIGNAL AT ROSELAWN AND HAMLINE Engineer Lemberg reported on the bid opening for sealcoating the north- west quadrant of the City. The following bids were received: Allied Blacktop Co, $43,010, Blacktop Service $40,745 and Bituminous Roadways, Inc. 39,331. Engineer Lemberg informed that the repair work on the streets will be considerably less than anticipated so the cost can be lowered to be within the 1980 Budget of $33,000. Councilmember Brown moved, seconded by Councilmember Larson that Resolution 8-12 be adopted awarding the 1980 sealcoating project to Bituminbns~Roadways, Inc., 2825 Cedar Ave. S. Minneapolis, MN with the understanding that changes will be made to stay within the budget of $33,000. Motion carried unanimously.
