MINUTES <br />ULAR 19UNCIL MEETING <br />~ ~ 2 <br />M <br />AY <br />s ~ <br />Page 3 <br />Councilman Black informed Council that Carleton Holerud,-owner APPROVAL OF <br />of Do-It-Yourself tTpholstery, 1558 W. Larpenteur Avenue, applied VARIANCE FOR <br />for a variance to repaint the existing sign at the building. <br />!'h <br />i <br />t DO-IT-YOURSELF <br />e ex <br />s <br />ing sign is 108 sq. ft., which is larger than allowed UPHOLSTERY <br />by ordinance. The variance was approved unanimously by the plan- C <br />HOLERUD <br />rung Commission because the sign is already there and the cost . <br />of altering the existing sign is unwarranted. Councilman Black <br />noted the building has been unoccupied for some time and he <br />would like the City to encourage new businesses. Councilman <br />Black moved and it was seconded by Councilman Ecklund to ap- <br />prove the variance as submitted. Upon a vote being taken the <br />following voted "aye: Mayor Warkentien, Councilmen Black, Eck- <br />1und, and Labalestra sled the following voted "nay": Councilman <br />Steele. Motion carried. <br />Councilman Black informed Council that N.E. Hermes, owner of BERMES FENCE <br />the. shopping center on the northwest corner of Snelling and VARUINCE <br />Larpenteur Avenue had spied for a variance to erect a fence TAHLED UNTIL <br />on the northerly sad westerly lot: .line of Lot 7 of the Cross- FUTURE MEETING <br />roads, which is to be used as a parking lot. Lot 7 abuts an <br />"R" district lot and Ordinance 64 calls for a fence to be not <br />less than 75~ opaque. the Hermes' were desirous of erecting a <br />l <br />5' <br />cyc <br />one fence which would be less than 75K opaque, thereby <br />making the need for a variance. <br />Councilman Black moved and it was seconded b9 Councilman Steele <br />to table the matter until .the next meeting. Clerk Administrator <br />Barnes was Bisected to call Mr. Hermes and inform him that <br />Council would like him to appear at the next meeting with a <br />plan which conforms with Ordinance 6l~, Section 11~.2.Upon a vote <br />being taken the following voted "aye": Mayor Warkentien, Councilmen <br />Black, Ecklund, Steele and Labalestra and the following voted <br />"nay": None. Motion carried. <br />Mayor Warkentien recognized Ms. ,Sandy Menge of the League of LEAGUE OF W <br />Women Voters who was monitoring the meeting for the League. Vp~ gEp~ <br />Clerk-Adm3.nistrator Barnes noted that he had received a reply BEEEIIPES AT <br />from Dr. Ausman on the matter of the beehives being kept on 1718 LIlJDIG <br />the Malcoan Sugden property at 1718 Lindig. Dr. Ansman agreed <br />that the bees might be a health hazard. After consideration <br />of the beneficial aspects of the bee's pollination and the <br />fact that no one has ever been stung in the six years the bee- <br />hives have be®n maintained, the matter was dropped by the <br />Council. The determination to drop the matter was also based <br />on the fact that the original complaint had been withdrawn. <br />Clerk-AdNai,nistrator Barn®s presented a list of revised fees REVIEW OF FEES <br />for licenses and permits. After discussion and some revisions FOR LICENSES <br />were made, the iteaa was deferred until the next meeting at AND PERMITS <br />which time Attorney Kenefick will have draws up an Ordinance ~ [JNTIL <br />pertaining to reviewing the Fee schedule each year on June 30th.
