Fora~sr Mayor Harold Nilsen, 179t~ Tatum Street, was present to discuss the storm and surface water drainage in the portion of Falcon Heights bounded by University of Minnes©ta property on the West, Roselawn Avenue on the North except those properties that have been described as falling within the boundaries oP the Rice Creek Watershed, Fairview Avenue on the East and Lsrpenteur Avenue on the South. He presented the Council with e report labeled "Exhibit A" which is on file in the Clerk's office, of events and circumstances surrounding the drainage arse and related his concerns for the area. He also presented several topography maps showing the water flow and elevation levels, and showed slides and film of the heavy flooding and high water levels in the area during the spring of 1865. 1 Mr. Nilsen stated that he felt the Council should have a storm drainage study made of the area before they allow the construction of any type which would be destructiiae to the land in the area. It was stated that there have been no formal, applications of any type which allow the construction of a complex on the property in question. Mr:~ Nilsen requested that the Council authorize the City Engineer to conduct a study of the storm water and surface water drainage of the area involved. STORM AND SURFACE WATER DRAINAGE - HAROLD NILSEN Councilman Ecklund moved, seconded by Councilman Steele, COST PROPO:~I. - DRAINAGE to authorize Engineer Lemberg to prepare a cost proposal STUDY for lthe Council on the study of the drainage area west of Snelling Avenue. Motion carried. Councilman Steele introduced the following Resolution and moved its adoption: BESOLt~ION #?~+-7 A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE INCREASE OF $.50 IPt COM- PENSATION FOR THE FALCON HEIGSTS VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT, RETROACTIVE AS OF JANUARY 1, 1974 Councilman Black seconded the foregoing Resolution and upon a vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereof: Councilmen Black and Steele, and Councilwoa-an Stocker, and the following voted against the same: Mayor Warkentien.
