2979 <br />MEETING OF MAY Ili, 1970 <br />r <br />1 <br />1 <br />The regular meeting of May 1lt, 1970 was called to order at 7:00 P.M. with the <br />following members present: Mayor Warkentien, Clerk Taylor, Councilmen Black, <br />Ecklund and Stone. Also present were Treasurer Olsen, Engineer Lemberg. Attorney <br />Seed arrived at 7:1~0 P.M. <br />Minutes: Ecklund moved that the minutes of the April. 23, 1970 meet- <br />ing be approved as corrected. Black seconded and the motion <br />carried. <br />Summer Recreation Miss Donna Selina, recreation student atter~lding the Univer- <br />Program - sity of Minnesota, appeared at the meeting to discuss the <br />Donna Saline summer recreation program, and the salaries to be paid which <br />Appointed will be as follows: Director $1,000, one assistant at <br />Ulrector: $750, and two instructors at $600 each. <br /> Warkentien moved that the Council e~tploy as recreation <br /> director, Miss Doantta Saline, starting June 15, including <br /> eight weeks of five days each week. The morning program <br /> starting at 9:30 A.M. until 12:00 noon at the Idaho-Snell- <br /> ing and University Grove playgrounds. The afternoon program <br /> starting at 12:30 P.M. until l~:00 P.M. at the West Falcon <br /> Woods and Falcon Heights School playgrounds, with the under- <br /> standing that the director will attend a meeting on June 25, <br /> 1970 to present a report on the progress of the program. <br /> The director shall be given the power to engage one assist- <br /> ant and two instructors, one male and one female preferred. <br /> All the personnel wi11 be on~a full time basis with $1100 of <br /> the operational budget to be appropriated. Stone seconded <br /> and the motion carried. (Black suggested that a recreation <br /> cooromittee beheld with Donna Selina being present.) (Letter <br /> was sent to each member of the recreation commi.ttee.) <br />Variance Request - Black moved that the variance application submitted by <br />Richard Magnuswl Ri.chaxd Magnuson, 1810 Holton Street, be granted, as recom- <br />1810 Holton Street: mended by the Falcon Heights Planning Com~tission, to con- <br />stzuct sparking area of bricks set in sand along side of <br />his present driveway, and sub3ect to approval of the appro- <br />priate County Agency. Eeklund seconded and the motion <br />carried. <br />Variance Request - Eugene Gasparro, 2l~32 Churchill and John Labalestra, 1899 <br />Lido Corporation West Larpeateur Avenue, appeared at the Council meeting in <br />1611 W. Larpenteur: behalf of the Lido Cafe, 1611 West Larpenteur Avenue, to <br /> discuss moving the present sign on the east end of the build- <br /> ing out into a parking area and also to install a flashing <br /> arrow on the sign. A variance application was submitted. <br /> They also requested financial assistance front the Village, <br /> if possible, to so arrange or reconstruct the present park- <br /> ing lot to stop through traffic from their parking lot to <br /> the shopping center nearby. The Council recotm:tatded Lido's <br /> engage a lawyer to take care of the park3.ng situation. <br />Falcon Heights - A group of men from Falcon Heights and Lauderdale appeared <br />Lauderdale at the meeting to present their proposed plans to secure a <br />Ice Arena: four seasons ice areas for the Falcon Heights-Lauderdale area. <br />
