10$ 9
that the storm surer eliminated amounted to ~2,19lt.00. Kammer
was also advised we added to the cost by sodding portions of
the ditches and replacing six driveways plus additional costs
on unit price work such culvert removal, etc.
Geo. Gasparro asked why the ditch hadn't been sodded on his
side of the street. He also said the ditch was now full of
rocks. L3ungren said the rocks were cleaned up by Schifsky -
anything there now must have been pushed in by Craig. Nilsen
advised the reason the sodding wasn't done was to save money
but that the rocks would be cleaned
out, and they would watch the ditch for erosion. If erosion
becomes serious, ditch will be repaired and sodded to take care
of it.
Kammer said he had been told there wouldn't be any increase in
water at his end, but that there was and the ditches couldn't
possibly handle it. Kammer said water had never come from the
North before, bat both Nilsen and Thelander said it had - parti-
cularly in the Spring.
Albin Struck said his driveway had been left low. He was ad-
vised that the contractor didn't fill any driveways back of
the property line. Struck asked why they didn't clean up the
sand now. Nilsen advised the matter had been discussed at
length and the Council had decided it would be more economical
and beneficial to clean it up in the Spring when they could also
clean up the winter debris. It was agreed that if anyone wanted
any of that surplus sand, it would be alright for them to take it
up and use it for fill where needed on their own lots.
Hogberg asked why the interest rate was set at 6~. He was ad-
vised the Village Council had used 6% on all previous assess-
ments and that the interest rate was an inducement to pay promptly.
Hogberg asked how the assessments were going to be set up. He
was advised that if the Council passes a resolution, there will
be a 30 day period within which people can pay the assessment
without any interest. Any assessments remaining unpaid at the
end of the 30 day period will be certified to the County Auditor,
and can be paid any time before mecember 31st by paying the full
amount of the assessment, plus the interest from the day the
resolution is passed until December 31st, 1958. After that, they
will be put on the tax roll and one can still pay the full amount
of the assessment, plus the interest for the entire year in which
the assessment is paid.
Struck asked if the assessment could be paid on Saturday. He
was advised the office is not open Saturdays, but a check could
be mailed in any time.
Thelander asked if we still took sewer rental payments at the
office, and he was advised that we did.
Schirrmeister asked if the cost of removing the sand was so high
that it couldn't be done this Fall. He sas advised that it
would be more economical to do it in the Spring. Schirrmeister
asked why so much sand had been used. L3ungren answered that this
