MINUTDS REGULAR r,~EETING 11/20/58 <br />Meeting was called to order at 7:00 P. ?~., the following Council Members being <br />presents Harold C. Nilsen, Mayor; George Shavor, Trustee; Willis ~arkentien, <br />Trustee; and Paul Coppini, Trustee. Also present were Frank N. Graham, Village <br />Attorney, Wm. E. Olsen, Treasurer, Vern Ljungren, Village Engineer and Ethel E. <br />White, Deputy Clerk and neputy Treasurer. Absent: Wm. R. Utecht, Clerk. <br />Minutes of the special meeting of October 30th were approved as submitted. <br />Minutes of the special meeting of November 6th were approved as submitted. <br />Minutes of the regular meeting of November 12th were approved as submitted. <br />~~ <br />Boulevard Nilsen reported that the hedge on the boulevard of Gustav C. <br />Hedge. Hard had been removed. <br />Trailer on Coppini reported he had talked to Mr. Coleman regarding the <br />Boulevards trailer on his boulevard,•and Mr. Coleman has moved it. <br />All-night Mr. Flaherty, owner of Flaherty Bowling Lanes, 1550 Larpenteur <br />Bowling.. Avenue, appeared before the Council in person in response to <br /> Mayor Nilsen's request that he and the Council talk over <br /> Flaherty's blan to conduct all-night bowling on Thursday, <br /> Friday and Saturday nights. Flaherty advised he had received <br /> requests for all night bowling from many of his customers - <br /> mainly people who work until 11 P. '~q. and would like to bowl <br /> after they leave work at 11. Police Commissioner Don Arndt <br /> recommended that bowling cease in time to have the bowling <br /> alleys emptied and closed by 1:30 A.. Pit. which would give the <br />people time enough to get into their cars and away before our <br /> Policeman made his final check before going off duty at 2 A. M. <br /> It was agreed that this would be done, It was also agreed that <br /> the Council would reconsider this matter if all-night bowling <br /> becomes an accepted fact or if Mr. Flaherty and the Council <br /> find the earlier closing hour works a hardship. <br />Court Village Attorney Graham said that Llyd Riley, Justice of the <br />Cases Peace, had asked him to prosecute a "Drunken Driving" case <br /> if the defendant pleased "Not Guilty". The occasion did <br /> not arise because the defendant pleaded guilty. Graham <br /> recommended that if such a case should arise in the future, <br /> Riley should set the trial ahead two weeks which will give the <br /> attorneys time to gather evidence and prepare; and that an <br /> attorney should be present to prosecute the case. This <br /> suggestion met with the approval of the Council. <br />U of M Graham reported he had called Mr. O'Hearn, University Attorney, <br />Recreational regarding the lease. He said it had not been presented to the <br />Area Regents and apparently they were going to approve it as presented <br /> in Graham's letter. He also advised that O'Hearn had consented <br /> to moving the available fill from Falcon Woods No. 2 onto the <br /> site. Graham also reminded the Council of the necessity of <br /> moving the electric lines that come across the field to the <br /> radio tower if and when the west end of the leased property <br />is used. Graham mentioned that the University had advised him <br /> they are trying to sell the radio tower and there is a uossibility <br /> of that coming down. <br />Mando Photo Graham advised that the A!fando Photo Company has purchased the <br />building on Larpenteur from Grudem Brothers and they will soon <br />~'. <br />
