1~- ~-~ <br />REGULAR T~!EETIA?G THURSDAY, DECE4aB:~R, 4th, 1958. <br />Meeting was called to order at 7:35 P. PF., the following Council Members being <br />present: Harold C. Nilsen, T.4ayor; George J. Shavor, Trustee; Paul L. Coppini, <br />Trustee, and V1m. R. Utecht, Clerk. Also present were Frank N. Graham, Village <br />Attorney; Vlm. E. Olsen, Treasurer; Don Arndt, Public Safety Commissioner; <br />Niclc Christensen, Building Inspector; Vern Ljungren, Village L~'ngineer, and <br />'r~thel E. b"o'hite, Deputy Clerk and Deputy Treasurer. Absent: Vdillis '"'arkentien, <br />Trustee. <br />The t~iinutes of the regular meeting of November 20th, 1958 tnrere approved as <br />submitted. <br />Police Dept. Don Arndt, Public Safety Commissioner, reported that the siren <br />on the police car ha.d burned out and that it would cost ttisenty <br />to twenty-five dollars to repair it. Arndt recommended the <br />purchase of a 12 V. Siren which is the siren most commonly <br />used throughout the area. After discussion, it was moved by <br />Utecht, seconded by Shavor and unanimously voted to authorize <br />Arndt to purchase a new, 12 volt, Federal Siren, at a net price <br />of ~k60.00, installed. Arndt reported: The two courts took in <br />~9t~?..00. On December 2~th, Police Officer Johnson will go on <br />duty at 6:00 P. ~~., check through the shopping center, +,hen go <br />home to be with his children untiJ_ they go to bed, and come <br />back on duty at 10. As representative of the Falcon heights <br />Police Department, he turned over X35.00 and 6 gifts for the <br />"Ken Johnson Fund". The Fire Department handled their own con- <br />tribution. Arndt will check with other local municipalities <br />regarding Police ~4anual and report later. It was suggested <br />that the policeman check the skating rinks during the evening. <br />It was decided that, starting the new year, we should ask for <br />bids on our gasoline requirements. <br />League of Mrs. Keye and ?~.Rrs. Cooper were present to represent the League <br />Women of Vyomen Voters and were introduced to P?embers of the Council <br />Voters and others present. <br />Apartment George Membrez presented a preliminary sketch showing six pro- <br />Building posed apartment buildings, to contain 100 one and two bedroom <br />Fry and apartments. The plan showed set backs of 30' from streets on <br />Larpenteur 'ooth sides, side yard 8' on North, off street parking for 100 <br /> cars with space 9'x20'. Construction to be of brick, stone <br /> and ceramic tile, with a mortgage value of about ten thousand <br /> dollars per unit. He asked if it would be permissable for <br /> builders to take out building permits for one or two buildings <br /> at a time, and was advised it would he. He said the builders <br /> had set a maximum completion date of three years, but hoped to <br /> complete the project within a year or so. He will submit <br /> completed plans to the Council within a few weeks. P~embrez <br /> also advised it would 'oe necessary for the builder to get <br /> permits for a 100 unit project because the cost of the land <br /> was so high - otherwise the deal is off. <br />Alley Pu1r. Chas. ":~RcCullough, 1l~38 Iowa inquired as to how the alley <br />Assessments. work recently completed was to be assessed. Ljungren advised <br />he had the final figures and is about ready to go to the <br />r4achine Accounting Department for preparation of the Assess- <br />ment roll. Graham explained the assessment procedure to T~ric- <br />Cullough; and asked that Ljungren give us, in letter form, <br />the total cost of the three alleys and he will prepare a reso- <br />lution to pass at the next meeting. <br />
