~~
u~..3
Planning, David Cartwright, Chairman of the Planning Commission,
contd. stated that the Planning Commission had long felt the need
of professional planning advice. About 4 years ago, they
had engaged David Loecks, who is now head of the Metropolitan
Planning Commission, to make a survey and, at that time, ?t4r.
Loecks advised a "V.~ait and SeeF4 Policy. 'rhe Commission and
the Council now feel that it is time to set up a definite
talan with restrictive ordinances.
Cartwright then introduced. Howard Dahlgren, senior planner,
of Garl L. Gardner & Associates Thorshov and Cerney, Inc.,
the firm which the Village has engaged to make a survey of
our Village and recommendations for land use. Dahlgren
showed slides of shopping centers and. industrial centers
they had planned; what they considered good and poor resi-
dential layouts, pointing out the advantages and disadvan-
tages, and outlined their recommendations for transitional
zoning.
1
1
There were questions from the-floor as to what the plans
were for the ~3ifulk Property, Nilsen replied that no legal
steps had been taken by the Village to acquire the Bifulk
property for parking purposes; but that the possibility of
authorizing the use of that property for parking purposes
by special permit if and when parking should become a prob-
lem had been discussed, zrrith the thought in mind that a well
kept, screened parking lot would be more acceptable to the
residents than having cars parked in front of their homes
along residential streets. Utecht read Rees' letter.
Nilsen pointed out that there were many things to consider -
the convenience of a shopping center in the village, the
businessmen's investment and, most certainly, the interests
of the residents, No one can definitely predict what
changes the fug-.ure will bring.
Adjournment On motion, the meeting adjourned at 10!50 P. ~4.
Signed-~`~=~ _/
C er .
Approve ~¢~
~ayor.
