Hermes regarding the^iat;ter. <br />Traffic: Letter from James Gillesuie; Pine City, :Minnesota was read <br />and referred to Police Co~unissioner Arndt. Clerk ivas <br />instructed to write Pair. Gillespie thanking him for his <br />letter. <br />Sidewalks: Paul Coppinni was present and. urged that the Council <br />iniate action to h-eve existing sidewalks on F~oyt Avenue <br />repaired or replaced and to have sidewalks installed where <br />they do not already have them. Engineer Lemberg was in- <br />structed to make a survey and present his recommendations <br />to the Council at the next meeting. <br />Coppini also reported many burning violations in the <br />ItiTOrthome area. The mat+er will be reported to the <br />Police Department with instructions to issue citations <br />to violators. <br />Curb and gutter: Stan Seaborn, 1>1?_3 W. Iowa, presented the Council with <br />a petition for the instal~.ation of curb and gutter on <br />one block of Iowa and. sug~°ested that the Council hold up <br />the matter until they could iniate a program for the in- <br />stallation of curb and. gutter for all streets in the <br />Village. After .consideration, the Council feels that <br />it is best to go ahead v~rit;h the Iowa Avenue project now <br />inasmuch as many of the residents are anxious to have the <br />curb and gutter installed this year. <br />Sipes property: John T,iacGregor, 1795 Fairview, was present. He said the <br />people on Fairview favor a ~0' set-back from Fairview if <br />an apartment is built on t;he Sipes property. Attorney <br />Gal~rin reported he had talked to Howard Dahlgren, the <br />planner, who feels the 30' side yard when abutting a <br />street is adequate, and that a requirement of 50' would <br />constitute about 1~3 of Sipes property and might lead to <br />a law suit which the Vills,ge might lose. P.iacGregor <br />asked the Council to consider the problem of traffic on <br />the corner of Fairview and Larpenteur. I~Iilsen advised <br />PaacGregor that, at present;, we do not have any plat plan, <br />or any application for a building permit. ~~~e have simply heard <br />that the construction of an apartment on the Sipes proper- <br />ty is being considered. <br />Cross walk Letter of June ?9th, from A. D. Crampton, was read, in part, <br />lighting: as follows: "P~~ir. Chenoweth, safety director, Ramsey County, <br />can find no objection to the installation of the flashing <br />yellow lights because they indicate caution only and have <br />nothing to do vrith the control of movement as faF as a <br />signal is concerned. They reco~?merd lights be placed on <br />mast-arm type brackets that would extend over the roadway <br />from either side of the road. '?lwo amber lights should be <br />mounted on each a.rm so approaching traffic would have no <br />difficulty seeing them. It is estimated that an installa- <br />tion of this tT-pe would. cost approximately X2,000.00. <br />
