(1) Sign, advertising. A sign that directs attention to a business or profession or <br />commodity, service, or entertainment not sold or offered upon the premises, where such <br />sign is located or to which it is attached. <br />(2) Sign area. The entire area within the continuous perimeter enclosing the extreme <br />limits of such sign. However, such perimeter shall not include any structural elements <br />lying outside of such sign and not forming an integral part of border of the sign. The <br />maximum square footage of multifaced signs shall not exceed two times the allowed <br />square footage of a single-faced sign. <br />(3) Sign, business. A sign that directs attention to a business or profession or to the <br />commodity, service, or entertainment sold or offered upon the premises where such sign <br />is located or to which it is attached. <br />(4) Sign, courtesy bench. A sign which is affixed to a courtesy bench or shelter. <br />(5) Sign, dynamic display. Any characteristics of a sign that appear to have movement or <br />that appear to change, caused by any method other than physically removing and <br />replacing the sign or its components, whether the apparent movement or change is in <br />the display, the sign structure or any other component of the sign. This includes displays <br />that incorporate technology or methods allowing the sign face to change the image <br />without having to physically or mechanically replace the sign face or its components as <br />well as any rotating, revolving, moving, flashing, blinking or animated display and any <br />display that incorporates rotating panels, LED lights manipulated through digital input, <br />digital ink or any other method or technology that allows the sign face to present a <br />series of images or displays. <br />(6) Sign, flashing. An illuminated sign which has a light source not constant in intensity or <br />color at all times while such sign is in use. <br />(7) Sign, ground. A sign which is supported by one or more uprights, poles, or braces in <br />or upon the ground. <br />(8) Sign, identification. A sign which identifies the inhabitant of the dwelling or occupant <br />of a building. <br />(9) Sign, illuminated. A sign which is lighted with an artificial light source. <br />(10) Sign, motion. A sign that has moving parts or signs which produce moving effects <br />through the use of illumination. <br />(11) Sign, nameplate. A sign which states the name and/or address of the business, <br />industry, or occupant of the site and is attached to said building or site. <br />(12) Sign, pedestal. A ground sign usually erected on one central shaft or post which is <br />solidly affixed to the ground. <br />(13) Sign, permanent. Any sign on a lot or parcel of land more than 365 consecutive days. <br />(14) Sign, real estate. A sign offering property (land and/or buildings) for sale, lease, or <br />rent. <br />(15) Sign, roof. A sign erected upon or above a roof or parapet of a building. <br />(16) Sign, shopping center or industrial park. A business sign designating a group of <br />shops or offices (more than three). <br />(17) Sign, structure. The supports, uprights, braces, and framework of the sign.
