~~
R. J. Stenberg, stated he was opposed to the proposed setback as something that
1540 Crawford would detract from property in the area. Pro vision for parking
spaoe in the rear would not prevent parking in Pront, he said.
Parking at Webers restaurant is done at a time when it is not
bothersome, Dr. Stenberg said, and unless a definite guarantee
could be given not to build in back of the proposed building,
he would be opposed to the proposed setback.
H. G. Grant,
1546 Crawford .said he wished to go on reoord as favoring the ordinance provid-
ing for a 30-foot setback, and asked, "Why not use parking space
in Pront as it was planned?" After all, he added, when you
build a concrete building it is there to stay.
~. J. Lessard,
1944 Asbury said he is one of the owners of the L. & L. Appliance store, and
having a post office in their building at present, he is familiar
with requirements, including setback in the rear needed as a
loading dock. Mr. Lessard said if we are going to line up to a
30-foot setback, it will make it impossible to put up the build-
ing.
Bert Persson, asked how it is proposed to use a 30-foot setbaok for parking.
1418 Simpson Said with an auto measuring 18 feet in length, it would not take
long to fill up. Thing he is interested in, he said,is that the
post office comes in there.
~`. B. Spindler, stated it was not clear as to what Mr. Rees is asking for.
1532 Crawford IInderstands it is proposed to locate building 11.9 feet from
the lot line, also that building next to poet office would be
a oaPe which would mean more parking. Afraid that would make
Crawford a parking area, and that changing the setbaok so as to
have a loading platf orm and 14 trucks in there would affect
status of their alley.
Attorney - (At this point in the hearing, Attorney Graham stated that Mr.
Rees is not asking for a building permit so it is not known
what kind of building he proposes. He asked fora revised
building line, fir. Graham said, and we don't know that he is
going to put up a building fora post office. The Council will
say the building line will be like Webers or will comply with
the 30-foot setback. The Council cannot compel Mr. Rees to put
up a building, Attorney Graham said, and we have no assurance
the proposed building will house a post office.)
Carl Keller stated Rees is requesting a building line for any kind of build-
ing he may decide to put up in the future. Thinks would look
nicer with buildings moved up, and might result in same kind of
parking as on Larpenteur. Aa to a post office, Mr. Keller said
no body knows, but that the property should be developed.
Don Julen said he agreed with Mr. Keller, and as a tax payer would like
to see some eommeroial buildings in there and would rather see
these set back in line with lNebers.
Bdr. L. H. Winfrey, sai8 if we get the post office there will be 18 carriers and
Pres., Falcon Heights three clerks, and that e; 30-foot setback would eliminate
Commercial Club chance of their parking in the rear.
