298 <br />Fire Dept. Andrew Hustrulid, Chairman, Fire vep artment committee, reported <br />Committee on the following. <br />1. Suggestion that the council for income tax purposes <br />place a value on the dormitory quarters in the fire <br />station which are oocupied by the two paid firemen. <br />2. Fire Chief jwanson's recommendation that gasoline <br />transport trucks be prohibited from using route via <br />Snelling and Larpenteur singe drainage of gasoline in <br />case of accident at this intersection would be towards <br />the business area. <br />3• Reference to letter of far. 4, 1952, from the two paid <br />firemen, stating they feel they have served the required <br />'~ probationary period to be entitled to a wage increase. <br />4. Request from Fi re Chief fa¢~ rrs~ther stripping doors and <br />installing storm windows of Pillage Ha11 and Fire Station. <br />Weather- After discussion, henry moved that the matter of esa$~einstripping <br />stripping. doors and windows in the Village Ball and Fire Station be referred <br />Storm doors. to Rekstad for investigation and report. Seconded by Lindig and <br />carried. <br />In regard to Chief Swanson's recommendation re gasoline transport <br />trucks, Public Safety Committee Chairman Don Arndt, who was present, <br />stated that the Village does not. control traffic on State and county <br />highwayys. <br />Congregational John K. Scott, 1754 Arona, appeared before the council to <br />Churoh building request that s, building permit be authorised for construction <br />permit of a new Congregational church building at Pascal. and Garden <br />estimated to cost X100,000. after discussion, Stewart moved <br />that issuance of said permit by our build~.ng inspector be <br />approved. Lindig anctonded and motion carried unanimously. <br />Speeding on Richard O'Connell, 1522 W. Idaho, reported that spreading of <br />Arona mix for alley improvements has caused motorists driving on <br />Arona to drive over a portion of his lavan. O'~onnell also <br />reported speeding by teen age motorists on drone between <br />~,arpenteur and Hoyt, especially Prom 4 P.B. to 8:00 P.b~. <br />deeds Mr. O'Connell complained of weeds on the north side of Iowa <br />and south side of Idaho between Arond and Snelling drive, <br />and spoke of insect conditions which he felt were due to <br />playground drainage. The clerk was asked to have Engineer <br />Carley close off street or erect barricades to prevent <br />motorists from driving on 06onne1l's lawn. The clerk was <br />a13o asked t o report alleged s ee ng on Arona to Public <br />Safety Commmittee Chairman Don y so that instructions <br />may be issued to apprehend violators. <br />Weeds M. 'AC. Strate, 1512 W. Idaho, appeared before the council in <br />oonnection with eradication of weeds on vaoant lots and on <br />other privately owned properties. Said power-pressure het <br />sprayers using a 2-~ DT formula were effective and low in <br />cost compared with mowing. Contacts were suggested for the <br />Clerk to develop details azxi to learn if equipment for <br />spraying is available on a rental basis.
