Henry Dachtera and Fire Ghief Swanson spoke in turn as <br />Committee to limited number of Fire Department committee meetings <br />meetings that have been held by the present committee and on <br />their understanding of how this committee was to function. <br />John Rysgaard asked if matters can be referred to the <br />Fire Department committee, requesting report from the <br />committee by a definite date. <br />Froposed Fire Earl Grumke requested that the Fire Department ordinance <br />Dept. Ordinance be changed to provide for a larger membership on the <br />change Fire Department committee. <br />Safety - Lodahl reported on discussion of traffic controls for <br /> pedestrians he had with a representative of the Safety <br />pedestrian Council, and in this connection, a letter from the <br />traffic controls Minnesota Safety Council was read, suggesting that a <br /> request be made on the County Board for a complete traffic <br /> survey of the situation. Dr. K~elland spoke as to dangers <br /> of placing a cross-walk in the middle of the block and <br /> expressed doubt that a cross walk is going to be the answer <br /> to our traffic problem. Henry Dachtera told of attempt <br /> some time ago to put up stop signs for school children <br /> which did not work out. The Mayor reported on seeing <br /> cross walks in various states on his recent trip west, <br /> including some in center of street and others above the <br /> street. R.K. Peterson said he favored cross-walks and <br /> suggested that the idea be tried out. <br />Tony Schmidt <br />on traffic controls County Commissioner Schmidt said that a proposed stop sign <br /> at Hamline and Larpenteur should help the situation. Said <br /> he didn't know whether a pedestrian cross walk world help, <br /> but that the council should decide what they want to try out. <br /> read <br />Planning Committee The Clerk/report dated July 31, 1953, by the Falcon Heights <br />report on Mack Planning Commission with reference to the proposed rezoning <br />petition of the Keller property, stating that it was not goad planning <br /> to have one small business area in the midest of a large <br /> residential area and that rezoning the property to Residential A <br /> would not be detrimental to the best interests of the Village. <br /> The Planning Commission also pointed out that the signers of <br /> the petition had acted in accordance wi th the law and that <br /> their wishes should bear weight.
