Henry, Mayor Absent, Ralph Van Hoven, Treasurer <br />George J. Shavor, Trustee <br />Arthur A, Lindig, Trustee <br />George I. Lodahl, Trustee <br />Clyde J. Stewart, Clerk <br />Frank N. Graham, Attorney <br />Also present: The three members of the Fire Department Committee, Andrew Hustrulid, <br />Chairman; Gordon Nelson, Volunteer Fireman member of the Committee; and <br />Clyde Stewart, Council member of the Committee. About twelve volunteer <br />firemen were in attendance. <br />The Mayor called the :Heating to order at 7:15 P.M., stating the purpose <br />of the meeting was to discuss Fire Department problems with the Volunteers. <br />Henry Dachtera, representing the Volunteer Fireman, reviewed requests made on <br />the Council, as follows: <br />(1) .Increase Fire Dept.com~aittee from three to five members. <br />~2) To levy an additional .lt of a mill for the year 195l~ <br />towards firemen's relief. <br />(3) To appropriate money to defray expenses of Fire Department <br />members attending State Convention, State Fire School, etc. <br />(!t) To increase salaries of paid firemen and to increase <br />compensation of volunteers for drill and fire time. <br />Fire Dept. As to request for increasing Fire Department committee membership <br />committee to five, including the Fire Chief, two volunteers and two citizens <br />not members of the council or of the volunteers; it was explained <br />that the three-man committee as at present was set up originally <br />after discussion with the Fire Chief and on recommendation of our <br />first Fire Department Committee Chairman, the 1 ate Harry Anderson. <br />It was also explained that the purpose of the Fire Department <br />committee is to provide a buffer between the council and the <br />Fire Chief, the council depending on the committee for its <br />recommendations. <br />Andrew Hustrulid Meetings held by the present Fire Department committee and action <br />taken on matters referred to the committee were reviewed by <br />Mr. Hustrulid since his appointment as Chairman, <br />Membership of Question as to whether a five-man committee would find it more <br />Committee difficult to get together for meetings than a three-man committee <br />was also discussed. It was finally agreed between the Council <br />and Volunteers that five citizens should be appointed by the <br />Council to serve as a Fire Department committee, excluding from <br />membership the Fire Chief, Council members and Volunteer firemen. <br />The Village Attorney was asked to prepare a proposed Fire Ordinance <br />amendment to cover. <br />Firemen's Relief As to additional levy of .?~ of a mill for the year 1954 for <br />Firemen's relief; the volunteers were informed that the proposed <br />1954 budget provides for this. <br />
