<br />Fire protection Correspondence relative to Lauderdale's Ordinance No. !~0
<br />to Lauderdale's authorizing the annexation of lands described therein to
<br />annexed area the Village of Lauderdale, effective February 15, 195,
<br /> and informal approval by the Falcon Heights council of
<br />extending fire protection to the area annexed, subject to
<br /> consideration of an adjustment of our standby contract
<br /> because of the additional fire protection responsibilities.
<br /> After discussion, Cartwright moved that papers in this
<br /> connection be referred to the Fire Department committee
<br /> for recommendation, Seconded by Stenzinger and so ordered.

<br />Competitive •In connection with bills, Stewart reviewed procedure followed
<br />bids on in making Village purchases at a saving by securing competitive
<br />Village purchases bids on various items, He stated that fire maintenance
<br /> purchases were by far greater than in any other department
<br /> and that spot checks of fire maintenance bills he had made
<br /> convinced him there were opportunities to save the Village
<br /> money by securing competitive bids on stric8.y Fire Department
<br /> items varying in cost from a few dollars up to amounts under
<br /> X504. Ne suggested that it would be in the best interests
<br /> of the Village if the paid firemen would utilize their time
<br />• and the Village phone to secure such competitive bids by
<br /> calling three or more firms handling the same item. Stewart
<br /> also stated that the matter had been discussed with the
<br /> State Public Examiner's office, that they strongly approved
<br /> the plan and suggested further that the paid firemen keep
<br /> a record of such competitive bids, shov~ring names of the firms
<br /> and prices quoted. After discussion, Shavor moved that the
