Hustrulid seconded and. motion carried <br /> unanimously. <br />Earlier Hustrulid moved that the council try to adjourn its <br />Adjournment meetings in the neighborhood of 11:00 P. M., calling a <br /> special meeting if necessary to complete unfinished <br /> business. Cartwright seconded and motion carried <br /> unanimously. <br />Fire Department The Mayor announced that the regular order of business <br />report and proposed would be dispensed with at this point in order to give <br />ordinance revision Councilman Shavor an opportunity to present a report on <br /> the Fire Department and a proposed ordinance revision. <br />Presentation In this connection, Shavor read an introductory article <br /> which he had. prepared for publication in The Rose Tribune, <br /> but said time did not permit, getting it in the paper. He <br /> then read a report on the Fire Department: based on a study <br /> started about a year ago, covering operations and activities <br /> of the department. for 1950-51-5?_ R• 53. He also read a <br /> proposed ordinance revision, and then moved that. said <br /> report, ordinance revision and other information,(copies <br /> of which were furnished to each member of the council) <br />Referred to be referred to the Fire Department committee for study and <br />Fire Dept. recommendation. Seconded by Hustrulid. Stenzinger spoke <br />committee briefly on the duties of the paid firemen and Fire Chief., <br /> The previous question was moved and the matter was ordered <br /> referred to the Fire Department committee by a ~t/5 vote of <br /> the council, the Mayor voting no. <br />Ask Fire Chief Stenzinger then moved that the clerk be instructed to write <br />attend ordinance a letter to the Fire Chief, requesting that he be present <br />revision dis- at the meeting of the Fire Department committee for any <br />cussions, discussion of the proposed amendment to Ordinance No. 1. <br /> Seconded by Cartwright. <br />Amendment Stewart moved that said motion be amended by adding the <br />voted. following clause: '~At such times as the Fire Department, <br /> committee requests." h':otion to amend was seconded by <br /> Shavor and carried by a !~/5 vote of the council, the ~Tayor <br /> voting no. ~ vote on the motion as amended was then called <br /> for and carried by a I~/5 vote of the council, the AA.ayor <br /> voting No. <br />60 persons Some 60 persons were present. and discussion was held by the <br />present council whether they would be heard at this time or at a <br /> regularly publicised hearing for the purpose. Cartwright <br /> then moved that all interested persons be allowed to speak <br /> on tkie report for not more than 5 minutes each. <br />Clarence Rekstad first to speak from the floor, sated he did not know about <br /> a hearing to be held at this meeting and that hs had not <br /> been invited to attend any.
