5~ <br />Sanitary Hustrulid reported that our engineers are now working on the <br />Sewer problem of a possible entrance into the sewage system of <br />St Paul. <br />Culverts Nick Christensen reported on the installation of culverts on <br />Tatum street, stating that three were second hand. He also <br />reported. that the used culvert on the Village Hall grounds <br />would be serviceable for a private driveway if the damaged <br />end of the culvert were cut off. It was agreed to retain the <br />used culvert for that gurpose. <br />Pedestrian The Mayor reported the injury of a person on our pedestrian <br />cross walk crosswalk recently and raised the question of more policing <br />injury in that area. Treasurer Olsen, who said he had just returned <br />from an auto trip thru the east, reported that the school police <br />idea was used effectively on pedestrian crosswalks in many <br />communities. He said high school students were employed, <br />that they stood on the curb off the street and crosswalk, using <br />long poles with suitable signs attached to warn approaching <br />motorists. It was agreed to refer the matter to the Public <br />Safety Commission for study and report. <br />Police It was reported that since James ~~aller was unable to serve <br />as a part time police officer, the Public Safety Commission <br />had recommended the appointment of Kenneth Schmidt. Cartwright <br />moved that Kenneth Schmidt be appointed as third part-time <br />police officer effective as of July 20, 1955. Seconded by <br />Shavor and motion carried unanimously. <br />Fireman Question was ra~;sed as to Fireman Stanley P. Schultz being <br />Schultz entitled to a salary of X285.00 per month on the basis that <br />salary, he had not passed advanced first aid course as required under <br />X280 per mo. Section 7, Ordinance No. 31. Fire Chief Swanson was called <br /> to the council room and his letter of June 5, relative to <br /> Ordinance requirements passed by Schultz was read, stating <br /> that Schultz was the holder of current "Standard" Red Cross <br /> card. Asked if he~is qualified to give instruction in Advanced <br /> First Aid, Fire Chief Swanson said he has not kept up his card. <br /> In referring to the minutes of June 8, 1955, it was pointed out <br /> that increasing Fireman Schultze salary to 9285.00 per month was <br /> in error, and that the increase should have been to X280.00 per <br /> month according to the ordinance, Cartwright moved that the <br /> council do nothing about the two checks received by Fireman Schultz <br /> on the X285 basis so as to eliminate the need for changing book <br /> records and salary deductions already made, and that Fireman <br /> Schultz be paid on the basis of 93280 per mopth, commencing July <br />_ 16, 1955. Seconded by Hustrulid and motion carried unanimously. <br />Aug. 10th In view of the fact that our attorney would be out of town on <br />meeting bugust 10, 1955, Stewart moved that regular meeting of the council <br />postponed. scheduled for August 10, be postponed until Wednesday, August 17, <br /> 1955, beginning at 7;30 P.M. Seconded by Stenzinger and. motion <br />~~ <br /> carried. ~ <br />
