650 <br />Reported fire Letter of January 19, 1956 from Acting Volunteer Fire Chief <br />hazards, Strand- Grumke relative to reported paint spraying and welding <br />quist filling operations at the Texaco service station, Hamline ~ d Hoyt. <br />.station, The Chief reported that fire inspection of the property on <br /> January 16 showed it to be in fair condition except for a <br /> dirty air compressor which the operator was asked to clean <br /> up. Chief Grumke, who was present, was advised that under <br /> the Village ordinance the Chief has authority to serve a <br /> written order on the owner of such property to abate any <br /> fire hazard. <br />Lauderdale Letter of Janaary 19, 1956, from Acting Volunteer Fire Chief <br />fire hazards Grumke regarding recent-fire inspections made in Lauderdale, <br /> was read. Two of the reports, the Chief said, disclosed <br /> serious fire hazards at the Currier Manufacturing Company, <br /> 2!tlt8 West Larpenteur L~venue, and at Pearley's Place, 2505 <br /> West Larpenteur, especially with respect to condition of <br /> electric cords and wiring. After discussion, Utecht moved <br /> that the Clerk write to the Lauderdale council, calling <br /> attention to these conditions, and ask if they will take <br />• appropriate action. Seconded by Shavor and so ordered. <br />Fire hose - 300 ft. Competitive bids and fire hose samples were received in <br />12", purchased. connection with the proposed purchase of 300 feet of <br /> 1~ inch d.~. rubber-lined fire hose with couplings. <br /> Bids and hose samples were submitted by the Minnesota <br /> Fire Equipment Company, of Minneapolis; A. R. Williams, <br /> of Minneapolis; and the Minnesota Fire Extinguisher Co., <br /> Inc., of St Paul. Hose samples were examined by the <br /> council and discussed with Chief Grumke and Fireman Stanley <br /> P. Schultz. On motion by Nilsen, seconded by Shavor, <br /> it was voted unanimously to purchase from the Minnesota <br /> Fire Equipment Company, 300 feet of "Chevron" 1-~ inch, <br /> d.~. rubbed-lined, waxed and gummed treated fire hose, in <br /> 50 ft lengths with N.S.T. couplings at their quoted price <br /> of $1.15 per foot delivered to our fire station. <br />F.D. Reqn #71~ covering two 15-watt~:white fluorescent lamps, 25 lbs <br />wiping rags, and chalk board, about 36x18, was approved <br />on motion by Nilsen, seconded by Shavor. <br />Reqn, #73 for 200 printed letterheads and 200 printed envelopes <br /> for the Bdayor, was approved on motion by Shavor, seconded <br /> by Nilsen. <br />School for In connection with our inquiry as to whether permission <br />noting pl ace could be had to use the Falcon Heights grade school as <br /> voting place for the proposed new election district, the <br /> Clerk read a letter under date of January 18 from <br /> Supt. of Schools Emmet D. Williams, stating that it is <br /> the policy of the school district to allow the schools <br />to be used for election purposes. <br />County unable Street Commissioner Nick Christensen reported in connection <br />snow plow with plowing alleys that .the County is unable to do this <br />alleys becaua~6 their snow plows are too large. He also reported <br /> that snow piled up in front of the Blomberg store had <br /> been removed by the County, but that the County does not <br /> remove piled up snow from the end of alleys. <br />
