_ ~~~ <br />Fire engine Trustee Cartwright read a letter from Fire Chief Grumke, regarding <br />fuel pumps, (1) having fuel pumps on both fire engines checked against vapor <br />hydrants & locking (2) proposed installing fire lines or culverts under each <br />water lines roadway at Larpenteur and Snelling to reduce fire hazards and provide <br />for keeping the drainage area pumped out (3) ask Water Department <br />to install a hydrant on each corner of the Snelling-Larpenteur <br />intersection (4) extend water main from west end of Hollywood Court <br />so as to provide hydrant service for St Mary's street, the Hermes <br />shopping area and the Grain Terminal. <br />Water situation In this connection, Attorney Graham reported. that the Board of Water <br /> reported on by Commissioners, City of St Paul, have Nick Labalestra's request <br /> attorney for water main extension to service his restaurant building, also <br /> our council's letter regarding installation of water lines and <br /> hydrants at locations on Larpenteur west of Snelling avenue, a <br /> request from N.L. Hermes to increase the size of the water main <br /> serving his shopping area, and other requests for extension of <br /> water mains outside the City from communities other than Falcon <br /> Heights. These matters, Mr. Graham said, were referred to <br /> St Paul's technical committee for review and report. <br /> Firemen's <br /> Regional A letter from Fire Chief Grumke was also read, relative to <br /> Association meeting of the Capital City Firemen's Regional Association <br /> meeting at and the S~ Croix Valley Firemen's Regional Association at the <br /> V.H., proposes Village Hall and Fire Station in October. In the same letter, <br /> painting the Fire Chief suggested that the firemen's dormitory, shower <br /> dormitory,etc. and kitchen be given a second coat of paint to improve <br />appearances. It was agreed that the Fire Chief should secure <br /> two or three bids on the paint job for consideration at our next <br /> meeting. <br />Fireman Schultz Letter from Fireman Stanley P. Schultz was read relative to <br />brother-in-law his brother-in-lax, Chester Sorenson, staying at the fire <br />as sleeper station as a sleeper until Schultz' home is completed, with <br />the understanding that Sorenson would not serve as a volunteer <br />or answer fire calls, but would answer the phone, help clean <br />up the station and do any work assigned to him by the Chief. <br />Schultz indicated his brother-in~law would like to join the <br />Department as a volunteer after the first of 1957 when he will <br />be 21 years of age. After. discussion, Utecht moved that the <br />matter be referred to the Fire Chief with power to act as he <br />sees fit. Seconded by Cartwright and motion carried. <br />Checks The matter of prompt handling of checks in payment of claims <br />against the Village was brought up by the Mayor and discussed <br />at some length. <br />Obscene The Mayor asked as to what could be done to eliminate the sale <br />magazines of obscene magazines in the Village and reported that he had <br />talked with a store owner in this connection. <br />Bldg. permit Application for building permit and plans covering the proposed <br />Gray's Drug remodeling of the store at 1550 West Larpenteur, including <br />Store new ceiling and floor, was received from the Northeme Shopping <br />Center, inc. and Associated Investors. After discussion, <br />Utecht moved that the building inspector be authorized to issue <br />the necessary permit. Seconded by Cartwright and motion carried <br />unanimously. <br />Primary Election On motion by Utecht, seconded by Shavor, it was voted unanimously to <br />Judges appoint as election jud es to serve at tthh Primary Election, Sept. 11, <br />1956, Mrs. Janet Otis, ~rs.
