~ ~} <br />Tree Trimming The proposed trimming of boulevard trees was discussed with <br />respect to streets and nature of work to be done on the trees. <br />John Schultz, 217 North Snelling, St Paul, who is in the tree <br />trimming business and. who was present, was asked to check the <br />boulevard trees on California avenue between Pascal and <br />Albert and to report back a# b~Zr Se~tembef' 3.Q~ ~9~~+ nieeting~ <br />on the nature of the work required. Attorney Graham said he <br />would check with South St Paul and West St Paul on procedural <br />matters. <br />J.P. fines Attorney's letter of August 9, 1956, relative to remitting of <br />fines collected by the Justice of the Peace for ordinance <br />violations and the question of receiving checks in payment of <br />such fines, was read. After discussion, the Mayor was asked <br />to talk with Public Safety Supervisor Don Arndt about checking <br />out with the Treasurer in connection with such remittances by <br />accounting for arrest tags by number. <br />Fuel oil The Clerk brought up the matter of fuel oil requirements and <br />was asked to secure competitive bids from a few fuel oil <br />companies on No. 2 fuel oil for the Village Hall and Fire Station <br />on a keep-fill basis for the 1956-57 season. <br />Maple Knoll Trustee Nilsen reported on the meeting Don .Arndt held with about 30 <br />traffic Maple Knoll citizens on August 13, 1956, including Sheriff Gibbons <br />and County Traffic Engineer William Chenoweth. Proposals for <br />controlling traffic were discussed, including proposed 'no turns' <br />and the proposed one-way system. No action by the committee was <br />taken, Nilsen said, pending completion of a survey of traffic <br />on Maple Knoll streets by Mr. Chenoweth. Nilsen also reported <br />that the Cardinal Construction Company had cut down lots near <br />the entrance to Maple Knoll off Snelling Avenue so as to day-light <br />the corners. The matter of asking the State Highway Department <br />to develop an improve' s~g~a~ system for controlling traffic at <br />the intersection of Larpenteur and Snelling avenues, was: also <br />discussed he said. <br />Dip signs, On motion by Nilsen, seconded by Utecht, it was voted unanimously <br />Arona-Calif. to request the County to install 'Dip' suns each way on Arona <br />at California Avenue. <br />Letter to Trustee Shavor reported he had talked with Don Julen relative <br />Stepnitz re to the council's letter to Mr. Stepnitz, regarding the property <br />property west west of Arona and. south of the business district. Julen said <br />of Arona he wanted to go over the letter with Mr. Stepnitz on his return <br />from a trip, and that they would let. the council know as soon <br />as possible what their answer is. <br />State Highway Letters of August 1, 1956 from the Department of Highways was <br />letter re blocking read relative to statutes referring to blocl4'of trunk highways <br />of highways for for local celebrations.
