68 <br />Return insurance Letter of December 31, 195, from H. & Val Rothschild, St Paul, <br />premiums was read, enclosing check for X206.30 to cover the return premiums <br />for the three Indemnity Insurance Company of North America policies <br />which were cancAlled December 1, 1956. The check was accepted <br />and turned over to Treasurer Olsen for deposit in the Village <br />account. <br />Snelling Drive Copy of Attorney Graham's letter to Don Arndt relative to <br />signs objections to the "Right Turn Only" traffic sign at the <br />southwest intersection of Larpenteur and Snelling Drive, <br />was read. It was reported that the sign had been changed <br />back to permit of left turns, also that some motorists from <br />Hoyt were using Snelling drive to make left turns onto <br />Larpenteur avenue westbound. <br />Metropolitan Mr. C.C. Ludwig's letter of December 28, as to the League's <br />Planning discussion and endorsement of the metropolitan planning commission <br />Commission bill, urging each council to take individual action thereon and <br />Bill directly contact their respective senators and representatives. <br />After discussion of some of the main features of the said bill, <br />copy of which was attached to Mr. Ludwig's letter, Trustee <br />Shavor was asked to prepare and submit a resolution on the matter <br />at our next meeting. <br />Gas tax Reference was made to letter of Mayor Robert 0. Ashbach of Arden• <br />matter Hills, dated December 20, 1956, relating to the proposed distribution <br />of the state gas tax. Shavor reported he had talked with Commissioner <br />Lucille Blank regarding this matter, and that he would report further <br />after proposed meetings were held. <br />October tax Receipt of the October tax settlement from the County Auditor's <br />settlement .office in the amount of X15,355.51, was reported. Treasurer <br />Olsen reported on the break-doRn of this amount for crediting <br />to various Village funds. <br />1957 Agenda & Proposed agenda covering council meetings for 1957, and proposed <br />areas of areas of responsibility for the Mayor, Treasurer and each councilman, <br />- responsibility were considered. Approval was voted unanimously on motion by Nilsen, <br />seconded by Shavor. <br />Salaries The following proposed monthly salaries effective January 1, 1957, <br />were considered: Mayor, X50.00; each Trustee, X35.00; Clerk, X150.00; <br />Treasurer, X50.00; Fire Chief, ffi35.00; Police Commissioner, X25.00. <br />After discussion, especially with respect to the Clerk's duties and <br />office, Nilsen moved approval of the proposed salary schedule except <br />that the Cle rk's salary be increased from X150.00 to X6200.00 per <br />month. Seconded by Shavor and motion carried unanimously. <br />Acting Mayor Nominations for the office of Acting Mayor for 1957 were called for. <br />George Shavor was nominated. There being no further nominations, <br />George Shavor was declared duly appointed to the office of Acting <br />Mayor for 1957. <br />
