<br />REGULAR MEETING, THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 1lt, 1957
<br />Meeting called to order at 7:3~ P.1~., the following council members being present:
<br />William R. Utecht, Mayor; George J. Shavor, Trustee; Harold C. Nilsen, Trustee;
<br />Willis Warkentien, Trustee; Clyde J. Stewart, Clerk. Also present: William E.
<br />Olsen, Treasurer, and Frank N. Graham, Attorney.

<br />After inquiring as to whether anyone present wished to hear the minutes/read, Utecht
<br />moved that reading of the minutes be dispensed with and that same be approved as
<br />written. Seconded by Shavor and so ordered.
<br />Adv. sign, Application for permit from the Schubert Sign Company, of
<br />1658 Snelling Minneapolis, to install a metal advertising sign, 28 ft. wide
<br />by !t ft. high, at 1658 Snelling Avenue (Johnnies, Inc.) was
<br />presented by Building Inspector Christensen. After discussion,
<br />Utecht moved that the building inspector be authorized to issue
<br />the permit. Seconded by Shavor and motion carried unanimously.
<br />Outside stair- Building Inspector Christensen reported on a complaint regarding
<br />way, 186l~ Arona the building of ,an outside stairway at 18611 Arona to accommodate.
<br />tenants. The matter of whether this is a one-family dwelling
<br />under the ordinance and whether building of the outside stairway
<br />is in violation of the building code, was discussed. Utecht
<br />moved that the matter be referred to Trustee Shavor to investi-
<br />gate and report back at our February 28 meeting. Stewart
<br />seconded and motion carried unanimously.
<br />Reqn. #1011 Requisition No. 10lt, covering 1,000 verified account forms
<br />Clerk's and other supplies needed in the Clerk's office, ryas
<br />considered.. Approved on motion by Utecht, seconded by Shavor.
<br />Reqn. #105 covering fo~.m 22" adapters, close nipples, battery, etc. for
<br />Fire Dept. tank truck, was ordered approved on motion by Utecht, seconded
<br />by Stewart.
<br />Reqn. #106 covering 2 red lights, front mounting on tank truck; 2 10 ft.
<br />Fire Dept. sections hard suction hose; 1 siren for tank truck and 1 Gorman
<br />Rupp portable pump. After discussion, Stewart moved that
<br />purchase of the two red lights be approved, and that other
<br />items on this requisition be referred to Trustee Nilsen for
<br />checking arxi report. Seconded by Utecht amd motion carried
<br />unanimously.
<br />Reqn. #107 for 500 imprinted envelopes for the treasurer. was approved on
<br />motion by Stew~t#, seconded by Utecht:
<br />Surprise test Letter of February 12, 1957, from Fire Chief Grumke regarding
<br />drill with tank a surprise test drill, in which the Village's 1,500-gallon tank
<br />truck truck was used for the first time, was read.
<br />Tank truck - brake The Fire Chief's letter of February 8 was read explaining
<br />cylinders, red life, why two rear brake cylinders on the tank truck had to be re-
<br />siren, portable placed, also items needed for proper operation of-the tank
<br />pump. truck, including red lights, a siren and portable pump.
<br />Firemen's salaries Letter of February 8 from Fire Chief Grumke was read, relating
<br />reviewed. to the paid firemen's salaries and hours of service compared
<br />with fire departments in St Louis Park, .Richfield, Columbia
<br />Heights and Edina, with suggestion that the wage scale matter
<br />in our fire department be re~fiewed. After some discussion, Utecht
