~32`~ <br />SPECIAL MEETING, TUESDAY, MAY 11t, 1957 <br />Meeting called to order at 8:00 F.M., the following council members being present: <br />William R. Utecht, Mayor; George J. Shavory, Trustee; Harold C. Nilsen, Trustee; <br />Gillis ~arkentien, Trustee; Clyde J. Stewart, Clerk. Also present: Frank N. <br />Graham, Attorney. Absent: William E. Olsen, Treasurer. <br />~Qinutes of the previous meeting were.not read. <br />The Mayor stated that this was a special meeting for the purpose of receiving and <br />opening bids on Sanitary Sewer System, Improvement No. I, Part II (Street Resurfacing) <br />but that we did not have Daylight Saving Time when the bids were advertised for, so <br />that the bids will be opened the same as sewer bids were at our April 30, 1957 <br />meeting,:: at 9:00 F.M. <br />Broken concrete The Clerk reported he had talked with Mr. L. Schreiber, of <br />on Iowa lot St Paul, owner of the lot on Iowa Avenue near the drainage <br />near drainage hole, regarding matters pettaining to the concrete that <br />area. had been dumped on the lot. Mr. Schreiber;. he said, knelw <br />nothing about the concrete on the lot, but promised to <br />check and try to find out who was responsible for placing <br />it there. <br />Alley The Mayor reported that Edward Bowlin, 136l~ California Ave. <br />matter - West, claimed that the alley behind his property (opening <br />on Albert and Hamline between Idaho and California Avenues) <br />Edward Bowlin was an improved alley but was all broken up. The Mayor <br />said he checked the alley and found it in bad shape, but <br />that it is not one of the seven alleys improved in 1953. <br />Said he would ask Engineer Vern L~ungren to check the <br />alley and submit a report. <br />Machine Accounting, Letter of May 13, 1957 from Mr. Burton C. Spear, Director, <br />Ramsey County Machine Accounting Department, County of Ramsey, was read <br /> relative to the approved schedule of service charges for <br /> Machine Accounting Department services to municipalities <br /> in Ramsey County. The Clerk was asked to see if Mr. Spear <br /> could arrange to attend one of our meetings to discuss <br /> this matter with the council. <br />Village of Letter of May 6, 1957, was read from the Village Clerk, <br />Maplewood meeting Village of Maplewood, relative to a meeting to be held <br /> in the Maplewood Village Hall, at 8 P.M., May 15, 1957, <br /> to discuss the establishment of an exchange system for <br /> ordinances, codes and other information of value to <br /> communities. Mayor Utecht and Trustee Shavor said they <br /> would plan to attend. <br />Mail Box matter The Clerk reported that the Bost Office Superintendent of <br /> deliveries had phoned him after checking on the mail box <br /> at Arona and Larpenteur. Said the post office employes <br /> making the pick-up found it difficult and hazardous. to <br /> make the mail pick-up when the box was near 1550 West <br /> Larpenteur, and that the post office preferred leaving <br /> the box where it was or moving it to the north side of <br /> I.arpenteur. The Superintendent agreed to replace the <br /> storage box at Idaho and Pascal with a mail box the same <br /> size as at Arona and Larpenteur, for the use of residents <br /> in the area. Mayor Utecht said he would pass the <br /> information on to Mr.RJ Luey, President, Falcon Heights <br /> Commercial Club. <br /> <br />
