City of Falcon Heights <br />Job Description <br />Director of Public Works <br />Reports to: City Administrator <br />Type: Hourly, non-exempt; full-time <br />Primary Objective: <br />Serves as a working supervisor and department head providing first-line supervision to the public <br />works/parks staff including full-time, part-time and seasonal employees. Assists in establishing <br />annual maintenance routines. Responsible for scheduling, delegating work assignments and <br />participating in the completion of tasks and projects associated with the maintenance, <br />construction and repair of city parks, buildings, equipment, streets, and sanitary and storm sewer <br />systems. Provide leadership on budgeting, project management, policy implementation, and <br />resident relations. <br />• Job Responsibilities for Parks and Grounds: <br />• Maintenance of buildings, parking lots, walkways, turf, trees, ice rinks, fields, courts, <br />trails, play equipment and other general facilities and amenities that are part of the park <br />system. <br />• Ensure equipment is well maintained and appropriate for the purpose intended. <br />• Performance of general clean-up and care of all park areas. <br />• Perform skilled jobs that include driving of trucks, tractors, operation of heavy and light <br />equipment, hand and power tools. <br />• Ability to write Requests for Proposal (RFP) and solicit quotes and bids for vendors. <br />• Assist the Park and Recreation Director in the preparation of both long and short term <br />budget expenditures associated with the maintenance of the park system. <br />• Provide information to the Park and Recreation Director to determine and plan purchases <br />of equipment, materials, supplies and make or authorize normal day to day purchases. <br />Job Responsibilities for Public Works: <br />Primary objective: Plan, assign, supervise and participate in city public works maintenance <br />operations including, but not limited to: <br />• Ensure that city streets are properly maintained: Inspect and make minor repairs on street <br />• surfaces; notify proper authorities of conditions requiring major repair work; erect, repair, <br />~i <br />
