and remove street signs, fences and markers; coordinate contracted street snowplowing <br />and street sweeping; remove downed trees and debris from city streets; ensure proper <br />order of street lighting; perform other street-related maintenance as needed. <br />• Remove snow from city parking lots, public driveways, accesses and fire hydrants. <br />• Inspect, plant, and maintain city boulevard and median trees. <br />• Monitor and report non-compliance with parking, refuse disposal and related ordinances. <br />• Review potential project plans, specifications, and service contracts. <br />• Clean, flush and maintain sanitary and storm sewers; respond to calls about sewer <br />problems; check and clean catch basins and ponding areas, maintain manholes in proper <br />condition; notify proper authorities of conditions require immediate or future major <br />repair work. <br />• Clean, maintain, paint and make repairs to city hall building and property, including <br />furnishings, fixtures and equipment. <br />• Ensure that automotive vehicles, tractors, and small engines are properly maintained and <br />appropriate for the use intended. Identify mechanical problems and coordinate required <br />major repair work. <br />• Assist city inspectors in ensuring compliance with permit, licensing, and inspection <br />requirements; general surveillance to ensure that contractors operating in the city have <br />proper license or permit; work with city inspectors and city contractors to coordinate <br />activities. <br />• Recommend annual public works budget and monitor and manage expenditures. <br />• Staff Management: <br />• Serve as the first-line supervisor of the parks/public works staff to achieve effective <br />performance on assignments. Responsible for prioritizing, assigning, directing and <br />inspecting work. <br />• Evaluate and keep accurate records regarding staff performance. Recommend training <br />and development activities to improve performance. <br />• Maintain accurate records of activities undertaken, work accomplished, equipment and <br />material used, problems encountered and inspections conducted. <br />• Maintain operating procedures consistent with OSHA laws and regulations and <br />implement measures necessary to avoid and minimize accident potential. <br />Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: <br />• Possess a thorough, practical knowledge of the maintenance of park facilities, buildings, <br />equipment, streets and sewer systems. <br />• Knowledge of sanitary sewer systems, and lift stations sufficient enough to direct <br />activities of staff. Possess or have the ability to obtain a collection systems operator's <br />license. <br />• Possess the ability to evaluate the efficiency and economy of ongoing maintenance <br />operations and select the most appropriate technique for delivering services. <br />• <br />~~ <br />
