•
While some communities consider pavement condition, noise, air pollution and safety to be
driving factors in their decision in choosing a single trash hauler, residents often cite a preference
to be able to choose which hauler they prefer. Customer service issues and competitive costs are
cited by residents as reasons they prefer multiple trash haulers, rather than having the community
chose a single trash hauler.
In summary, there are several factors that go into the decision of trash service from a single
hauler versus multiple haulers. While damage to pavement by trucks is dramatic, there are other
factors that figure into the final decision. Residential traffic volume impacts caused by multiple
trash haulers are nominal. Air quality, noise and safety are other issues to be considered.
Conversely, choice, cost and customer service are other factors. As a result, the decision a city
makes can be controversial.
CC: "Robinson, Greg" <gobinson@hrgreen.com>

•
4i
