APR 19 '90 15:37 FP,~JM AMERICAN-ENGR-TEST PAGE.0~4
~1
AET X90-Z38 - Page 2
I examined the material at the sides and bottom of the test pits, and
reported the following: A fill appeared to be fairly loose -- not well
compacted. The black material was firm, though organic.
I told them (8111, Dick and Lee} that the fill definitely appeared to be of
questionable bearing capacity, and the black material appeared to be of
marginal suitability. I suggested that it would not be prudent to leave
the fill in place below foundations. The fill should be removed (on a 1:5
oversize} and -, as needed -~ replaced with controlled fill.
Alternatively, the footings should be "lowered" into the' firm soil below
the b1 ack soi 7 (thi s woul d entai l the cost for extra blocks i n the foun-
• dation wall } .
Report Prepared 8y:
Robert E. Pendergast, P,E,
MN Reg. No. 8450
