FALCON HEIGHTS CITY COUNCIL MINUTES -5- <br />March 9, 2005 <br />Authorization for staff to solicit bids for the purchase of a fire pumper (continued) <br />Council member Kuettel asked about combining the bid with bids the State of Minnesota <br />or Saint Paul might be doing for fire equipment. Administrator Worthington said the State <br />doesn't purchase fire trucks. Fire Chief Kurhajetz said Saint Paul isn't purchasing any pumpers <br />this year. <br />Mayor Gehrz asked Fire Chief Kurhajetz to describe the current pumper for the viewing <br />audience. Fire Chief Kurhajetz said it is a 1978 LaFrance that was built in New York and <br />purchased new for $65,000. Members of the Fire Department went out to New York to drive it <br />back. The Department rebuilt the transmission in 1991, but it is hard to find replacement parts <br />for it anymore. <br />Talbot moved authorization for staff to solicit bids for the purchase of a fire pumper. The motion <br />was unanimously approved. <br />Appointment of Dan Johnson-Powers and Greg Hoa a~puty Emergency Managers <br />Administrator Worthington said that by City Council direction, the City Administrator serves as <br />the City's Emergency Management Director. It is prudent to appoint two staff members to serve <br />as deputy emergency managers in the event that the City Administrator is not present for an <br />emergency, or is incapacitated and cannot serve in that function. <br />Greg Hoag is the City's Public Works Director, and also serves as a Fire Captain with the <br />Roseville Fire Department. He brings 15 years of experience in first response as a firefighter, <br />and has considerable emergency management skills. He also brings expertise about public works <br />functions and their role in emergency response. Dan Johnson-Powers is a Fire Captain with the <br />Falcon Heights Fire Department, is the City's primary CERT trainer, and is pursuing <br />certification in emergency management through the State of Minnesota. He has assisted the City <br />in planning and executing emergency drills and exercises, and serves as a liaison to county and <br />state agencies that are interested in CERT planning. These two have agreed to serve in this role <br />as part of their regular staff duties with the City. In the event of an emergency, they will be <br />compensated for their time, per City policy. <br />Kuettel moved approval of the appointment of Greg Hoag and Dan Johnson-Powers as Deputy <br />Emergency Managers for the City of Falcon Heights. The motion was unanimously approved. <br />Step increase and title change for Gre Hoag, Director of Public Works <br />Administrator Worthington said that Greg Hoag has completed his six-month employment <br />probation with the City, and has had excellent performance during this period. <br />S <br />
