• POLICY Hl
4/27/05
ITEM: Authorization of expenditure to repair sanitary sewer lift station
SUBMITTED BY: Greg Hoag, Director of Parks & Public Works
REVIEWED BY: Dave Tretsven, Senior Public Works Maintenance Worker
Heather Worthington, City Administrator
EXPLANATION:
Summary: Our sanitary sewer lift station is 20 years old. It has performed very well for many
years. During the past six months we have been experiencing fairly regular problems with one of
the pumps in the lift station. Due to the age of the pumps and advancements in technology, staff
is recommending replacement of both pumps at this time to help ensure many years of service
from our lift station. Along with the pump replacement some electrical upgrades will be made.
We are proposing to switch from single phase pumps to three phase pumps. Three phase motors
are more reliable and efficient than single phase motors. Also the pump is less likely to freeze up
if it has a minor obstruction in it during initial start-up.
• Two quotes were received for this work:
Braun Pump & Controls: $11,204.50
General Repair Service: $9,286.00
Staff recommends that a contract with General Repair and Service be entered into.
Goa12: To sustain and promote the assets of the city's unique neighborhoods and tax base
including commercial, residential and open space uses for present and future generations.
Strategy 3: Maintain the city's infrastructure.
Action Item: Maintain the sanitary sewers and storm sewers
ATTACHMENTS:
Proposals for pump replacement repair work, on pages ~-'
ACTION REQUESTED
^ Authorize expenditure to repair sanitary sewer lift station through a contract with General
Repair Service in the amount of $9,286.00
16
