If the 2 hour parking from 8 AM to 4 PM weekdays became
a problem along Tatum Street, residential permit parking
would be an option. This option requires 75% of property
owners in the neighborhood to petition for permits to allow
the residents to park without regard to the 2 hour posting.
The permits cost S 10 a year. The Grove has residential
permit parking due to its close proximity to campus.
However, the 2 hour parking from 8 AM to 4 PM weekdays
creates so few problems for most Grove homeowners that
only ten permits were issued to property owners out of a
possible 102 in 1994. This is because driveways
accommodate most parking during the daytime hours.
Visitors and others typically park for 2 hours or less on the
street during weekday hours. Tatum Street driveways are
typically longer than Grove driveways and, therefore, can
accommodate more cars than the Grove.
c. There is a possibility that the cars currently parking along
Tatum Street might move to the east and appear along
Lindig Street. The fact that Lindig Street is narrower, less
visible and not a through street might deter that from
occurring. However, if it was found to be the case, Lindig
• Street could be signed in the same way.
d. The presence of a 24 hour officer in the city limits starting
on January 1, 1995 will substantially increase the
enforcement of the city's parking ordinances.
ATTACHMENTS:
1.
