• do not solve a problem. Therefore, if the planning commission
chooses to recommend new parking restrictions, staff suggests
that residents along Tatum Street that currently do not have
parking restrictions be notified of any proposed changes prior to
the recommendation being made to the city council.
2. Option 1. Determine that the increased parking is not enough of
an inconvenience at this time to need a change in the parking
restrictions.
3. Option 2. Expand the 2 hour parking, 8 AM to 4 PM, Monday
through Friday, along both sides of the entire street.
a. If long term parking during the weekdays is perceived as a
problem by most Tatum Street residents, this option should
eliminate the pattern of long-term parking on weekdays
along Tatum Street. This parking restriction is not being
recommended because of an immediate threat to public
health and safety; the current parking patterns along Tatum
Street do not present such a threat. However, the city does
have a history of eliminating on-going, long-term, weekday
parking of this type to increase turnover along the street
and to provide on-street parking opportunities during the
day for residents along the street or for short-term visitors
to residents or people using the university. Without any
turnover of vehicles during weekday hours, residents do not
have the flexibility to use the street for parking during these
daytime, weekday hours.
b. The parking restrictions should cover the length and both
sides of the street. To sign only the east side of Tatum
(where the parking is now heaviest) would result in cars
parking further to the north and on the west side of the
street.
c. Staff wouldn't anticipate much inconvenience to residents
because most of the driveways along Tatum Street are long
enough to accommodate a few off-street cars. However,
if the 2 hour,8 AM to 4 PM, M - F, parking is an
inconvenience to residents who are expecting visitors or
workers, they may get a temporary parking permit from the
city for a S1 per vehicle with a maximum charge of 55.
•
3
