S--

CITY OF FALCON HEIGHTS
LARPENTEUR AVENUE FACT SHEET
1. What is the overall scope of the Larpenteur Avenue project?
Ramsey County is planning the reconstruction of Larpenteur Avenue from approximately
Dale Street on the east to Trunk Highway 280 on the west. The goal of the project is to
remove and replace portions of I.arpenteur Avenue that have deteriorated surface
conditions while adding many safety features. The safety features include the signalization
of some major intersections and the addition of dedicated left turn lanes at appropriate
locations. In addition, pedestrian facilities and landscaping improvements will be
included.
2. What will the new Larpenteur Avenue section look like?
Larpenteur Avenue will be an urban section which includes concrete curb and gutter
through the City of Falcon Heights. The section will consist of a four-foot wide shoulder
area on each side, two travel lanes in each direction, and a raised concrete median dividing
east and west traffic. At locations of major left turn movements, the median will provide
for a protected left turn lane. Generally speaking, there will be minimal widening of the
street from its current width (see attached Exhibit).
3. Where will traffic signals be installed?
Within the City of Falcon Heights, all existing traffic signals will remain in place. The
temporary signal installed at the intersection of Fairview Avenue will become permanent.
An additional signal will be installed at the intersection of Gortner Avenue.
4. What will happen to existing sidewalks and driveways?
Wherever sidewalk currently exists, it is likely that sidewalk will be in place in the same
location after construction. However, most existing sidewalks will be removed during the
construction process and reinstalled along with the new street section. There are no plans
at this point in time to close any driveways. Most driveways will likely be reconstructed
as part of the project.
5. Will there be additional sidewalks as part of this project?
A definite YES. The City is still determining the exact locations. It is anticipated that
there will be a contiguous sidewalk from approximately Coffman Avenue to the east city
limits. It is expected that the sidewalk may be on the south side of Larpenteur at some
locations and on the north side at others. Through the residential area of the City, east
of Snelling Avenue, it is anticipated that sidewalks will be constructed on both sides of
Larpenteur Avenue.
330/025-0701 jul
