Neighborhood Information Meeting on Dino's Restaurant proposal
Tuesday, May 13, 2003
Informal minutes
Heather Worthington (HW): Greeting and introductions; background on property and relationship of
Dino's proposal to SE Corner project.
George Sherman (GS): Summary of land situation, SE corner tenant relocation, timetable, Embers
parcel purchase agreement
Dino and Jason Adamidis (JA): Their history in Falcon Heights, desire to remain here, willingness to
respond to community
Clark Wicklund: Site plan presentation
Resident Concern: Exit traffic to Crawford and Arona, also Asbury
Resident Comment: "Embarassing" that no traffic study has been done; traffic will increase.
Q: Dino's operation hours?
JA: 10 - 10 M-F; to 11 p.m. Fri-Sat; to 9 on Sunday
Q: When did this idea originate?
GS: About a year ago.
• Resident Comment: "Can't see adrive-in in Embers area." Not "fitting" for neighborhood. Wants
Embers "real nice restaurant" to stay, Dino's to stay on SE corner. [Same elderly male resident
repeated same sentiment at least 3 additional times during meeting.*]
Another resident (female, over 60) expressed preference for "American food."
Q: Would project go through without drive-through?
JA: No
GS: Embers is not viable operation for landlord. Replacement tenant would most certainly be another
restaurant wanting adrive-through.
Resident: "Thrilled you're staying, but..." drive-through is a real concern to neighborhood. Are
Dino's other restaurants in residential areas? How have you fielded response there?
JA: Shakopee store is the only other drive-through. Have had no neighborhood input [from
Shakopee location?] before now. This is the original Dino's store, a family business. They will try to
address issues or fix [problems]. 30% - 50% of Shakopee business is drive-through.
Q: Seating comparison?
A (probably JA): 40 old ("overflowing"); 118 new.
Resident Comments: Possibility of closing off Crawford or making it one-way. St. Marys Street
brought up, vis-a-vis Ciatti's.
JA: [Something like this] could fix traffic flow. Dino's does not want to do harm to the
neighborhood.
• Resident of AronalCrawford corner [who is moving, having found FH not after all a salutory place for
raising of children (paraphrased)]: Concerned with restaurant adding traffic to already stressed
intersection.
