• Transit <br />Existing Transit Routes <br />The existing transit routes and facilities are shown in Figure 6 on page 12. Six bus routes <br />currently serve the City, routes 3, 61, 84, 87, 121 (Campus Connector), and 124 (St. Paul <br />Circulator). <br />Transit Market Area <br />The City is the Market II Transit Service Area. Market Area II has a moderate <br />concentration of jobs, housing and activities. Typically Market Area II has a population <br />density of 9-14.9 persons /acre augmented by contiguous High Transit Dependency <br />areas. Typical service options in this market area are regular route locals, all day <br />expresses, small vehicle circulators, special needs paratransit (ADA, seniors) and <br />ridesharing. Area II has a primary emphasis on big bus /regular route service. The <br />frequencies of service are typically 15-30 minutes or 30-60 minutes depending on land <br />use patterns and time of day. The span of service is typically 12-20 hours per day, seven <br />days a week. The access is typically spaced .5-1.0 miles apart with six to eight stops per <br />mile. <br />Future Transit Facilities <br />• The Central Corridor is an 11-mile Light Rail Transit LRT route Tanned between <br />( ) p <br />Minneapolis and St. Paul running along University Avenue. There is a planned stop at <br />Snelling Avenue. Bus service connecting Falcon Heights, including the University of <br />Minnesota and State Fair, will connect to the LRT stop at Snelling. <br />The Red Rock Corridor is a 30 mile transportation corridor starting in Hastings and <br />running along Highway 61 and then west along I-94 through St Paul and then to <br />Minneapolis. Planned stops are not defined at this time, but like the Central Corridor <br />there would be stops that could be serviced to Falcon Heights via bus service. <br />Aviation <br />The nearest airports to Falcon Heights are the Anoka County (12 miles north) and <br />Downtown St. Paul (9 miles southeast) reliever airports which provide general aviation <br />access while reducing congestion at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, which is <br />10 miles south of the City. Falcon Heights is not within the airspace protection zones of <br />these facilities. The City will work as a contributing community with the Metropolitan <br />Airports Commission.
