• d. Recreation Program update:
Recreation program registrations continue to trickle in. Commonwealth
Terrace registrations have been slow but a flyer was distributed to all
residents last week to help boost registration. A flyer will go out to all
Falcon Heights residents at the end of the month that highlights the
programs that cun'ently have low registration, including Babysitter
Training, Adult Soccer, Baseball and Playgrounds. The majority of staff
have been hired, except for apre-school instructor. There are 4
returning staff and 7 new staff. All programs should have strong
leadership with 7 staff in college leading the programs and 4 staff in
high school that will work as assistants.
5. Hockey Rink at Falcon Heights Elementary:
The City will go with the cheapest option first which will be to move the boards
from the Grove to Falcon Heights Elementary. The Grove will continue to
have a skating rink, possibly an oval as Maertz suggested. The school has
agreed to the rink, but neighbors will need to be contacted about lights. Dolan
suggested putting up lights with shields or running lights on timers.
6. New Play Structure at Falcon Heights Elementary:
The school wants to put in a $40,000-50,000 play structure. They are looking
for donations. The City is considering cone-time donation of approximately
• $15,000, but doesn't want along-term commitment or maintenance
responsibilities. The City Council sees the value of partnering with the school
since so many of our recreation programs are held at that site. Deen
mentioned that the City should see the structure, and have some input in the
decision, before it is purchased. The structure is estimated to be purchased in
2005. Motion to support the play structure in an amount to be decided was
unanimous.
Long suggested we discuss the recruitment of new park commission members,
possibly a youth member, at the June meeting.
Meeting ended at 7:40 p. m.
Minutes respectfully submitted by Ann Davy. If there are any corrections or
additions, please contact Ann Davy by phone at 651-917-1287 or by email at
ann. davy@ci.falcon-heights. mn. us.
•
