resources she could refer to in getting a run together and would be making a
list of things needing to get done if it will happen at this year's Winterfest.
Abernathy will be reporting back at the December meeting. Abernathy then
reported on other events that would be taking place at this year's event: the
return of the hayride, fire, goodies, games, craft and the falcon hunt. Mielke
said she would check in with the Harriet Alexander Nature Center about
borrowing snowshoes as well as Ozasky will be connecting with Beth Mercer-
Taylor on using the Minnesota Youth Ski League on possibly having cross-
county ski's available for people to use throughout the park.
5. Comprehensive Plan
Mielke reported that we are on track for finishing the comprehensive plan,
there are a few holes that need to be filled and then we will be closer to
finishing the plan. Abernathy noted a chapter in the plan is "5 Year Plan" or
ideas we may have for the future we'd like to make note of. Abernathy asked
the Commission to think about this topic and have some ideas for December's
meeting. Mielke also noted that it might be a good idea to think of program
ideas around the time the next year's budget is being created so that they can
implemented if chosen to do so.
5. New Business
Abernathy reported that it was that time of year again when we need to move
funds from the Friends of the Park Fund over to the Scholarship Fun portion of •
the budget to recover cost from scholarships given out in 2007. Abernathy
noted that 12 scholarships were given out in 2007; ninety percent of them to
participants from the Commonwealth Terrace area and ten percent to
residents not living in Commonwealth. There were no objections to this
recommendation so Abernathy will be bringing this to the City Council for
approval.
Thomas asked the Commission if there was any plan or thoughts on
chemicals the City is currently using on its grasses and if the City has any
plans to move towards a chemical free city. Harris recommended contacting
the Environment Commission on this subject as they maybe already have this
as an item up for discussion. Abernathy also noted this may be a subject that
Pittman can address at next months meeting.
Next Park Commission meeting will be Monday, December 10 at 6:30pm
Adjournment
Minutes respectfully submitted by Lisa Abernathy. If there are any corrections or
additions, please contact Lisa Abernathy by phone at 651-792-7616 or by email at
lisa.abernathy@falconheights.org.
