Carol K said there was one additional change order. A low point will be
filled in the dirt and this will then require sodding, at a cost of about $200. She
said this would increase the effective size of the pleasure rink at the park.
• Dave was concerned about park lighting. There will be exterior lighting on
the building and at the park itself. This should make the park less prone to
vandalism. The total project cost is about 5150,000, with the grant covering
5 69,000.
4. Ideas for the future
Although we are done with major facilities, there is still much to do to keep
our parks managed and maintained. Sam reminded the commission about the
signage and the Lion's pledge of 51,000. Carol K said she would bring the
information to the next meeting.
Carol H lead a brainstorming session on potential desires for the future. She
thought a survey might be in order. Jyneen stated that a survey had been done
when we hired the park planners several years ago. She went over the salient
points. Some of the suggestions were: more open, natural areas, guided nature
trail (could this be done in cooperation with Roseville Parks and Rec or Gibbs
farm), more picnic areas (which we have increased at both the Community Park
and Curtiss Field. Other ideas: a dog running or training area, hockey boards at
FH Elem. School, the Folwell nature corridor, concerts in the park in the summer,
classes for adults, gardening club, etc. Carol K said that we had been trying to
make the programming pay for itself. If we add "free" programming, we need to
decide to incur this cost.
Other capitol improvements for the coming year: play structure re-do at the
Community Park, running course re-do at the Community Park.
What about a cocoa, coffee vending machine for the Community Park
building. It would get a lot of use during skating season, and the city would reap
some financial benefit. A pop machine outside the building would also be nice.
We all agreed that we needed to spread the word about building rental.
Carol K said that every group that has rented the building said they loved it and
would be back.
5. Update on Cooperative Study with RV
Sam stated that the study is done and Sue Hoyt and Steve Sarcosi(?) are
reviewing it. The representatives from the two city councils will review it next.
They are, for FH, Sue Gehrz and Paul Ciernia, and for RV, Vern Johnson and
Joann Cushman. The two councils will then have a joint session to review the
study. A community committee will also look at it. Then the city councils will
make recommendations for implementation of shared services, with a decision for
action sometime in 1992.
Sam also reminded us that anon-motorized path was still up in the air for
the redo of Cleveland Ave. The commission agreed that we would try to show up
for that city council meeting and indicate how important we think that path will
be.
6. As there was no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 9:00 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,

Linda McLoon, Secretary
