Adr. rind hrs. Art Lindig were present and answered questions about their applica- <br />tion for a conditional use permit to use their home at 1875 ~N. Larpenteur as <br />a rooming house for University studenta. They have talked with Adrs. Jlsen of <br />the University Housing Bureau, wlio is in charge of housing of St. Paul campus <br />students. ?hrs. Olsen informed them that their house could accomodate up to six <br />students, as it has just one stairway to the second floor. fir. Lindig assured <br />the Planning Commission that there was adequate parking space available. <br />~&OTI©N ll~r. Larson moved to recommend to t3~e Village Council that a conditional <br />use permit be granted tv Mr. Lindig to use his home as a rooming house <br />for up to and including six people. fir. Sch~vantez seconded the motion, <br />~rhich was passed. <br />It was recommended further that the Village Council request the <br />Fire Department to chee% the home periodically for fire safety. <br />2. '~ebers Restaurant ~at 1708 1J. Snelling Ave. rec~ussted a varis~nce for a ns~r sign. <br />3' by 18~ sign will be erected on the top of the building and a 6~ by 8~ <br />reader panel gill project from the front of the building. The over-all s~aare <br />footage for the signs is 2 s~.. ft. more than allowed by the ordinance, end <br />the reader panel projects 6 fret closer to tie front property lot Tins then <br />permitted by the ordinance. <br />The Planning Cor~:miasion felt that the proposed sign ~a.s appropriate. pith <br />the Embers sign next door, this sign seemed reasonable, <br />?~"OTION fir. Hindermann moved to recommend to the Village Council that the re- <br />quest for variance for a new sign submitted by '~ebers Restaurant at <br />1708 N. Snelling .Ave. be approved. ~Itr. Larson seconded. The motion <br />was passed. <br />3. The application for a variance submitted by &fr. `~. ~P. Helms, 1789 :Asbury, was <br />discussed next. fir. Helms wants to add a garage and additional bedroom space <br />to his home. The structure would come to ~rithin 3~ of the let line of the <br />neighboring Hus+eby lat. The Huseby house is about 35~-from the lot line so there <br />would still be space between the houses. <br />The Planning Commission took no action on the regue$t as they felt two more <br />documents were needed before consideratian~ 1) the ~rritten consent of tt~e neigh- <br />bor involved, (the Hus+eby family) and 2) an elevation drawing of the proposed <br />structure shoring the roof fine .and the overhang. <br />~. ~Ir. Hindermann suggested, and it vrs:s agreed, that a resolution be dra~-m tip <br />commending iVir. Charles Otis for his many years of service to the Village as $ <br />member of the Flannirtg Commission. fir. Hindermann offered to draw up such a <br />resolution. <br />5.
