Adr. rind hrs. Art Lindig were present and answered questions about their applica- tion for a conditional use permit to use their home at 1875 ~N. Larpenteur as a rooming house for University studenta. They have talked with Adrs. Jlsen of the University Housing Bureau, wlio is in charge of housing of St. Paul campus students. ?hrs. Olsen informed them that their house could accomodate up to six students, as it has just one stairway to the second floor. fir. Lindig assured the Planning Commission that there was adequate parking space available. ~&OTI©N ll~r. Larson moved to recommend to t3~e Village Council that a conditional use permit be granted tv Mr. Lindig to use his home as a rooming house for up to and including six people. fir. Sch~vantez seconded the motion, ~rhich was passed. It was recommended further that the Village Council request the Fire Department to chee% the home periodically for fire safety. 2. '~ebers Restaurant ~at 1708 1J. Snelling Ave. rec~ussted a varis~nce for a ns~r sign. 3' by 18~ sign will be erected on the top of the building and a 6~ by 8~ reader panel gill project from the front of the building. The over-all s~aare footage for the signs is 2 s~.. ft. more than allowed by the ordinance, end the reader panel projects 6 fret closer to tie front property lot Tins then permitted by the ordinance. The Planning Cor~:miasion felt that the proposed sign ~a.s appropriate. pith the Embers sign next door, this sign seemed reasonable, ?~"OTION fir. Hindermann moved to recommend to the Village Council that the re- quest for variance for a new sign submitted by '~ebers Restaurant at 1708 N. Snelling .Ave. be approved. ~Itr. Larson seconded. The motion was passed. 3. The application for a variance submitted by &fr. `~. ~P. Helms, 1789 :Asbury, was discussed next. fir. Helms wants to add a garage and additional bedroom space to his home. The structure would come to ~rithin 3~ of the let line of the neighboring Hus+eby lat. The Huseby house is about 35~-from the lot line so there would still be space between the houses. The Planning Commission took no action on the regue$t as they felt two more documents were needed before consideratian~ 1) the ~rritten consent of tt~e neigh- bor involved, (the Hus+eby family) and 2) an elevation drawing of the proposed structure shoring the roof fine .and the overhang. ~. ~Ir. Hindermann suggested, and it vrs:s agreed, that a resolution be dra~-m tip commending iVir. Charles Otis for his many years of service to the Village as $ member of the Flannirtg Commission. fir.
