Attachment a
CITY OF
FALCON HEIGHTS
2077 W. LARPENTEUR AVENUE FALCON HEIGHTS, MN 55113 -5594 PHONE (612) 644-5050 FAX (612) 644-8675
15 October 1992
Mr. Roger Pittelkow
1853 Pascal St.
Falcon Heights, MN 55113
Dear Mr. Pittelkow:
I thought it would be useful to follow -up last night's council
meeting Shirley Chenoweth's telephone call to you today with
a written explanation of what the city staff plans to do to check
the accuracy of the location of your removed tree.
To guarantee the accuracy of your front property line, Mr. Vince
Wright and Dr. Linda Treeful will meet you on your property and
attempt to find the actual property stakes for the front of your
property. If these are located, they can mark the front stakes
and accurately determine your front property line. If the
property stakes cannot be located, a surveyor from the city
engineer's office will be asked to survey and mark the front
property line to guarantee an accurate location and resolve this
issue for you and the city.
Once the front property line is accurately located, the city
forester will use her expertise to determine whether or not the
tree was located on public or private property. If the area is
on private property, the city will proceed with assigning you the
bill. If it is on city property, we will apologize and cover the
expense of the removal.
At last night's meeting you also requested that the front lot
line on other properties on Pascal and Simpson be located by city
staff to see if trees that were removed in the past were on
public or private property. To be accurate in this measurement,
it requires finding the property stakes. The public works
foreman reminded me today, that although the staff occasionally
locates property stakes, this is usually done for one of two
reasons 1) at a property owner's request or 2) for a public
improvement project that property owner's are usually aware of.
Although we are occasionally asked to locate property lines to
satisfy a neighbor's inquiry, the city doesn't do this without
having a good reason, such as a violation of the zoning code, and
without checking with the property owner. Since locating the
stakes of a property usually requires digging down 6 "to 12
through the sod, it can temporarily disrupt the landscaping of
HOME OF THE MINNESOTA STATE FAIR AND THE U OF M INSTITUTE OF AGRICULTURE
tale PRINTED ON RECYCLED PAPER
TREE CITY UM
